I have been thinking about buying my wife a new ride. We have been looking at several types of SUVs. She narrowed it down to two brands. A BMW or a Lexus. I had spoken to the dealer for BMWs here in Chattanooga and felt I wanted to keep my business local as long as I could get just as good a deal here. My better half decided she would like to look at getting a BMW X3 28i SUV.
I purchased my truck from this dealer a couple years back and had a great experience. Left feeling good about the dealership and the people working there. With that thought in mind I went back there today thinking they were honest hard working fair people. I don't know if the same people own it or what but today was just the opposite. The sales person named Christine struck me as a fast talking slick bragging sales lady. Maybe she thought I did not look too bright. Or maybe I did not dress the part standing there in my tennis shoes, Ranger jacket and blue jeans. emoScratch But the more she talked about how good they were and the more she tried to convince me she was giving me a good deal the less I felt warm and fuzzy about it. She told me they only make 7% off any BMW on the lot, but she would give me a 6% discount and leave them with just a 1% profit. emoConfused You know, I may look like I am a few French Fries shy of a full happy meal but I can assure you they don't run that business on a 1% profit margin. emoGeezer Then she tried to tell me since they did not have the color of what we wanted on the lot she would order it but had less flexibility with the price. She finally took off to get a full copy of the actual price I would pay. My wife looked at me and could tell something was wrong. I told her I was not feeling this gal was being honest and lets just see what price she comes back with.
It was unreal. Her so called "deal" was nothing more then reducing the trade in value(To $4000.00) to off set the discount and then adding docking fees and a couple other fees to jack the price right back up where it was. emoAngry Then to make it even worse when I told her there was no way I would trade my wife's current SUV for such a low trade she started dishing pure crap trying to explain why the blue book value was way off and how the market was no where near being able to support what the blue book said it was worth on trade.($6,500 to $7,500) She then produced one she said was just like my wife's SUV that she had copied off the Autotrader sight. There was suppose to be two pages and she only showed me one.
Need I say I did not make a deal and she said she would keep looking for my wife a deal on one. When I got home I looked up the SUV she had showed me to support her claim and the dang thing was WRECKED!!!! Yep, they had copied a SUV sale sheet to compare my wife's SUV to that was wrecked and up for sale as one that could be rebuilt. My wife's SUV is just about perfect as one can be for a 2003 with 220,000 miles on it. But they had to search hard to find one like it for just $6,700.00. The second page that they did not bother showing me showed it was wrecked and up for sale as one that could be restored. emoTskTsk I looked just for a second or two and found another just like my wife's in the same shape and mileage, they were asking $11,497.00 for it. Looking over the sight they ranged from $10,500 to about 12k for one as nice as the one we have in that year with that milage.
I am telling you, this ain't my first rodeo. I have been around the block a time or two. There is no way they did not know that it was wrecked. There is no way they did not know what the SUV was really worth. There is no way I will ever buy a vehicle from them ever again. In my experience based on that visit they are crooks or at least they tried to be with me. emoBadLanguage Jmax
