Long story short, my new to me boat got rear ended as I was trailering it to the lake.
The other parties insurance company is sending someone this week too look at it. I was not plowed into, but the force of the impact broke the "fin" over the prop in half and bent the transom saver bar at a 90 degree angle.
There does not appear to be any other damage. My biggest concern is that there is internal damage to the lower unit and I am going to get "hosed" by the ins co.
Has this happened to anyone else? Anyone have any words of advice?

Thanks!

(Everyone has told me to simmer down, but I'm still pissed...lol)

Fiberglass boat? I would be concerned about stress fractors on the transom....with a lick like that!!!!!!

Thanks for the responses! This is why I am still pissed, so many possibilities of issues. I got a bad feeling I'm going to have to fork of some $$$ to get this fixed...

ALL KINDS OF POSSIBLE PROBLEMS===BENT SHAFTS AND SUCH...YOU KNOW WHAT IT'S LIKE WHEN YOU KINK METAL, YOU CAN PUT MAKE UP ON IT BUT IT'S STILL THERE.. emoGeezer

I think your neck hurts too!

His neck always hurts, have you seen the bald head it has to carry around?? lol.

Jeff - I think Fish n Fun would be able to check it out for you as well. Hope you took pics at the accident site of the damage, vehicle positions, etc. And I would definitely agree that you should have it checked out BEFORE their adjuster comes out. Not sure how their insurance company works, but normally if the repair shop finds damages that the adjuster didn't see, they'll just report it and add to the repair as hidden damage.

Hope it all works out well and gets fixed as quickly as possible.

LMAO Fishn4fun!!! I'm sure I looked like a big bobble head in the cab of my truck when I got hit.
I'll be ready for the ins adjuster when they show up. I'll have a couple of quotes in my hand.
My ins co said it's not my fault so I shouldn't have to pay jack, but we'll see.

Thanks again everyone.

Make sure someone checks out the transom real good too. I know your main concern is the motor and lower unit but the back of the boat absorbed a huge amount of shock from the impacxt as well. I dont know if your boat is aluminum or fiberglass but either way it could have some damage and you dont want that to show its face the first time you get back in the water.

Happened to me several years ago. Lower unit had to be replaced plus stress cracks in the transom had to be fixed. They were hard to see. Took a while to get it fixed, but once done didn't have any additional problems

Thanks for all the info! That's why I put this on here, not for a pity party, but additional info that you all provided.
I'm taking it in first thing this morning to get checked out by a professional. I'll ask about the transom and the trailer itself also.
Thanks again!

emoEnforce Pain & suffering...Pain in the A-- about the whole thing & suffering due to lack of time on water due to no-brainer who hit you emoLaugh luck...........
hate to hear this happening............ emoGeezer emoUSA

Take your rig to Paul Nichols. Tell him what happened. He and Dale will go over it with a fine toothed comb. They will give you a list of demages and repair cost. That way you are not at the mercy of the insurance adjuster. Trust me he does not have your best interest at heart. He is there to save the insurance company as much money as he can. I had the same thing happen to me except it was a high speed impact. It totaled everything, boat, motor and trailer. Trust me the insurance company will make it right but you may have to make them do the right thing. Good Luck

I would more concerned about a fracture to the strength in your transom that may not show through the surface until after you have ran it a few times,.
I would be certain to have an open claim in the event something shows up later. Finding any transom damage could set the price of the claim at replacement.

shouldn't they get you a loaner rig while you wait on yours to be repaired? Why should you be out a boat through no fault of your own.

I did get compensation for loss of use. If I remember right it was a couple of hundred dollars a month. It took about 3 months to replace everything.
