Hi from Georgia. I'm a lake guy down here, but have always wanted to put in near Chattanooga and run into downtown, under the bridges, etc. I will do it probably next week, but was hoping for some info.

I have a 16ft runabout with a 75hp Mercury. I've never run in a river before. Is the current very strong? Are there any shallow spots or other hazards I need to know about? What about tying up downtown to get out and walk a bit? Is that pier in front of the Aquarium an allowable spot to tie up?

I'm thinking of putting in either at the public landing at Suck Creek or off Amnicola.

Appreciate any help.

Normal current flow this time of year is slow, ie, 12-15000 CFS unless they're generating a lot of power at the dam and even then it should be safe for your boat. As for hazards, stay between the red and green cans
and you will be fine but always be aware of floating debris.

The main dock downtown is city owned but run by erwin marine. Call them to see if short term docking is available. 423-266-1316

I would recommend the Riverpark Ramp off Amnicola. Large ramp, easy to launch. If not on a weekend will be very few boats and good parking.
