This is my general amusement with some of Tennessee Football fans. When Tennessee beat lowly Austin Peay, Butch was coronated as the next true leader of Tennessee. After a loss in Knoxville last night, to Vanderbilt,

all of the call in shows and "The Sports Source" a local, Knoxville television show, are saying that coaching is the problem with why Tennessee is losing.

I am quite sure that it has nothing to do with the poor quality of athletes that have been sought by different programs over the last few years. Tennessee had a potential of collecting a number 2 ranked class next year. This negative talk will encourage all of these young athletes to look else where.

Did Phil ever lose to Vanderbilt in Knoxville or did he ever only win one sec game in a year. I think you guys were wrong for ever getting rid of him. But I am a DOG fan so glad you did.

Butch Jones took over a mess! Not his fault! Just look at the recruiting class he has so far compiled. Now when he gets them on campus and actually starts coaching them, the results will show as to his efforts good or bad. I'm still wondering how his going to actually sign that many commitments? And this will PO a lot of the Big Orange fans, but they are the most fickle, fare weather fans ever! Today they are in pursuit of a NC and tomorrow they are ready to slash their wrest! They will turn on a dime and strike like a mad rattler after any loss! Leave Butch Jones alone and let him do his job for at least a couple of years and than then see. He's new, the staff is new and none of the players were his to begin with. Brick by brick or block by block, you still have to have some cement mortar and a little cohesive continuity! It still has to set, cure and dry! RTR!

You guys are right. The call in shows reflect poorly on UT fans. Most of the really negative calls I suspect have never been to a game. They wouldn't have enough money after buying their weekend's three 24 packs. Most Vol fans I see and have seen at games since 1966 are just the best people who really care about the university. It's very similar to my experience attending a lot of games and university functions at Auburn in the eighties. I believe Florida fans are the worse I've experienced, and often don't attend games.

Butch seems to be making the right moves to get UT's program back on track. Top players he has coming will make an immediate difference. You could make the case for one freshman receiver being responsible for the win against South Carolina this year.

Was at the game last night an left in the second quarter. Im a vols fan but its tuff to watch this year. Butch will have a better quality of athletes up there its just gonna take a little time. Go vols!!!

Has anyone noticed how the offensive line has regressed since last season. That was supposed to be our strongest position. The offence was not bad last year it was the defence that was terrible. I think the one positions coach he should have kept was the O line coach! I like Butch but it still bothers me that Dooley beat him when he was at Cincinnati and he had better talent than Dooley!

I would be ashamed to admit it. If the players quit in the second quarter I bet you would be one of the first griping. I'm sure it happens everywhere but TN has some of the worst, most unrealistic fans.

I think Butch will do just fine. He is playing with Dooley's leftovers. In a year or two the Vols will be competing to win the SEC east again. GIVE HIM TIME!!

Let's see, Georgia fans want their coach fired every yea rand Bama fans were identical to Vol fans before Saban. It's SEC football and fans. It's passion. No fan base is any better or worse than anyone else. I've seen the best and worst of each team's fans. So stop bashing TN fans for being pissed. Some are a little more unrealistic than others. This is the worst 4 year stretch in the fottball team's history. It's hard to watch.

So it makes perfect sense to you to go to a game (I'm assuming to support the team), and leave in the 2ND QUARTER when the game is tied 7-7? He didn't say he kicked his neighbors dog after the end of the game. He clearly said he left before anything was decided.

Look I'm as diehard as any Vol, and it does hurt to watch at times, but dang what did people expect this year? They were terrible last year and we lost a QB and 2 WR's that are starting in the NFL so logic tells you it probably is going to get worse.

As for an evaluation of Butch Jones, ask me in 2 years. You can't polish a turd.

Off the subject a little (or is it?), isn't it interesting how well UT former assistants are doing at other schools? David Cutcliffe is having an amazing (historical) season at Duke, and John Chavis 2011 National Assistant Coach of the Year continues to do great things at LSU. His defense shut down Johnny Football this past weekend. Something Kirby not so Smart couldn't do in back to back years.

Phil Fulmer had a great team in Knoxville, and it's too bad that he couldn't get enough wins to stay.

Oldman - 11/25/2013 4:30 PM

who will be coach at bama when saban goes to texas?

Go smoke something good, enjoy it and dream on Larry! I believe that the Native American Utes really liked Peyote for such heart felt ceremonies. Or go to your closet and pray, bow your head, raise your hands, make a joyful noise, break the jars, beat a drum and blow a trumpet. Count your beads, burn a candle, gargle with Holy Water. Do it on Saturday and Sunday. Get both days in. Don't miss out on a possibility! Eat a fish on Friday and then have salads the remainder of the week. Maybe you could get a towel for your head and a door mat and go pray to the East. Just say a few mournful, sorrowful yet sincere words of hope to the Great Coach up in the sky ask for help in your plight. Or maybe you could hire one of them Voodoo Hoodoo Witch Doctors from the dark side and have them scatter out a few of those used Kentucky Fried / Colonel Sanders chicken bones for you. Or just go buy yourself a horse shoe and a rabbits foot and get a really old polished Buckeye to carry around in your pocket. Toss some salt over your right shoulder. Go find yourself a bouquet of four leaf clovers. Then when it's all said and done, go buy yourself a lottery ticket. You'll have a better odds than Saban leaving Alabama for several years to come.

Ok, I'm just having a little fun with you oldman. And I seriously, to everyone else, I don't want to offend anyone at all with any of the religious references and commits. Just a joke. K?
