Butch Jones

What's worrysome about Butch Jones is when you compare his record this year to Gus Malzone's at Auburn. This is Malzone's first year as headcoach at Auburn and they only won 3 games last year.

Apples and oranges comparison. Totally different situations. Look at the rosters and get back with me.

Malzhan was the oc at auburn three years ago and recruited the players he has on the team now. Malzhan hasnt had to install a new system either. They have also had top 10 recruiting classes and hardly any attrition. Auburn was a complete train wreck last year and the two situations are completely different. Malzhan is starting 4 star players he recruited for his system, Butch jones has walk ons starting.

Saban will retire next year for one year and then all of a sudden "get the itch" to coach again just like that sob urban meyer. And he will go to Texas. Book it!

Bama has a "coach in waiting". His name is Kirby Smart. Some of you might know him lol

And now it appears a DC in waiting. (Will Muschamp?)

Yes

I would like to address the more ignorant Tennessee fans, of which there are many if you listen to talk radio shows. Please become a Georgia fan or an Alabama fan or some other type of fan. You suck as a Tennessee fan.

For those who wished that Phil Fulmer were still the coach, remember that he was 5-7 for 2 out of his last 3 years as HC. He should have been fired in 2001. He quit recruiting and couldn't beat the big boys the last 5 or 6 years of his career. How many universities have come calling for him as HC since he was busted? Nary a one, if you coin a phrase by Andy Griffith.

Lame Kiffin started out with a bang, lasted one year, and left for his dream job. How did that work out? Only 3 of his recruits were on team 117 this year. Big help he was to the program.

Dooley came in and immediately started recruiting 2 and 3 star fat boys to stock the program. Signed maybe a couple that could play, but generally could not get the better recruits to come to the university. Not only that, but he couldn't coach his way out of the locker room. His staff could not make any half time adjustments and were clueless most of the time. He did have a couple of pretty good coaches. The O-line coach was a very good coach.

Now we come to Butch Jones. I watched his team from Cincinnati for 2 years after he brought his team to Knoxville and even though he left with a loss to a pretty fair Tennessee team (Dooley's first), his team was in shape, played with passion, and gave the Vols everything that they wanted until later in the game. His teams have won 4 championships out of the 6 years that he was head coach before taking over the mess that is currently Tennessee.

I was praying that Dave Hart would not hire Mike Gundy or Charlie Strong, who were both offered the job before Coach Jones. I wanted Coach Jones from the get go. The recruiting class that he has lined up will do Tennessee proud in a couple more years, but remember Tennessee fans, they will be freshmen next year and will be competing with the Georgia, Alabama, Auburn, Missouri, etc. juniors and seniors. Don't expect miracles next year. I do expect that they will at least go to a bowl next year and then begin to really compete with the teams in the East that are over them right now. Coach Jones will deliver at least an East championship in the near future. If Saban leaves Bama or retires, we might even win an SEC championship.

So chill out and support the team, win or lose. Of course, I realize that many of the naysayers are actually Vanderbilt, Kentucky, Georgia, Florida, and Alabama fans pretending to be Vol fans on the talk shows and message boards. Just ignore them.

Lots of good points made by all. I'm a Vandy fan first and a UTK fan second. I know that sounds crazy, but I have a bachelor's degree from Vandy and a master's degree from UTK and I live in TN. Heck, if UTK plays Florida, who do you think I'm rooting for, that's easy! There are lots of examples of great coaches turning around teams from poor seasons to winning seasons. Butch Jones was not able to do this. Dooley must have left the program in really bad shape. I think Jones will do well at UTK, but it's somewhat disappointing that he couldn't coach his team to a winning season.

Nick Saban's Ga. lake house

The Pointe on Lake Burton

Concierge Auctions / conciergeauctions.com

The property with 700 feet of lake frontage, surrounded by Chattahoochee and Nantahala National Forests, was listed for sale at $10.95 million.

Don't know how to attach the photo but awesome to look at.

Hamilton the former athletic director is why we are in the shape we are in. I am sorry you just don't go to bed and wake up the next day not knowing how to coach. As a head coach you are only as good as your assistants. Phil was too loyal to his to a fault. When Cutcliff left so did our program. Trust me I was at spring practice in 99 and I was embarrassed how the players were acting in front of all the hs coaches visiting during the last few days of spring ball. Phill Fulmer was a victim of his own success. However, Butch Jones is doing a good job at TN. In two years Tn. will be the team to beat in the SEC.

There are certain disadvantages that TN faces in recruiting that some of the neighboring states don't face (poor instate talent relative to other states in the SEC) If TN can recruit on Auburns level I bet they can play there. I am interested to see how your coach gets all these players in but I am sure there is someone on staff to help with that.
