charleston, fugates firearms the best place to go they do their class on friday nites in one session there is a lot you have to set through but you also learn alot and i didn't think it was that pricey

The class is basic and rudamentary for those of us who are familiar with firearms and safety. However the vast majority of the students in the class are not gun "experts". I cannot see the state giving one class for experts and one for rookies. The cost involved would be prohibitive. The entire class is 8 hours. Not 8 hours of "which end of the bullet to put in the gun" There was a total of about 2-1/2 hours of the lecture, 1-1/2 hours of discussion, 1-1/2 hours of lunch break and about 3 hours of shooting time. Pretty fun for me even though I could have aced the written test and shooting test without taking the course. The cost of the class is between $50 and $75 depending on who you take it from. The cost of the HCP is $115 if you are a long time TN resident. $50 if you are a transplant from another state with a valid carry permit from your last state of residence. Mine was a total of $125 since I had a valid GA license. Well worth the money if you ask me. Especially since the Tennessee HCP is recognized by more states than any other. Very important if you travel a lot like me. My $44 Georgia license was recognized by 23 states and now my Tennessee HCP is good in 37 states.

Very good post Cheez.

FYI, for those living in Bradley county, the sherrifs dept does the carry class for a total cost of $5. Yes $5.

OK, I am going to get my permit. Do you get a discount if you have been shot before? The money you guys are talking about is chump changed compared to the bs you would have to go through if someone wanted to press the issue.

does tenn recognize al i fish tenn alot and 99.9 i will have a hand gun with me and if not i have a 12 ga shot gun

Tennessee recognizes every state in the union's carry licenses and permits. Of course there are a few communist states in the US that do not allow even their own people to carry.

emoUpsmile . Doubt I'll ever fish around Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty anyhow. LOL

Those states should be turned into territories agian. I cannot believe almost half our population is communist. I say lets take our country back.

good thing I didn't have one Sat on Guntersville, the guy the buzzed between me and the bank, that was honestly 30 feet away, would have crapped his pants.
