MrWiskers: 1/2lb no pic but I saw him land it
Alvin: Had a nice one early but it pulled off
ric: I think you said you and G-3 had another small one but I must not have recorded it. If you let me know I will edit the post with the info.

Congrats to drc and the other winners! They had impressive catches on a day with plenty of wind and very little current. It was nice to meet all of you at the ramp and to swap a few secret fishing holes face to face. I had a blast and can't wait until next time.

The great thing about this tournament is that all fish were CPR (Catch-Photo-Release). They were immediately released unharmed so they can be caught another day...maybe even out of the same holes next weekend...I think this method of conservation has to help contribute to the trophy fishery we are so lucky to have here on the TN river.

7 anglers launched from the RiverPark and 6 launched on Chickamauga Lake. Please post your reports in this thread and email me your pics when you have time - I'll try to post pics as I get them resized and uploaded. I'll add them to your completed reports and they will also be visible in the gallery located here:

MrWiskers, Alvin, DHaun Report

We launched from the RiverPark and went straight to a downstream hole in 40ft, where Alvin had a bent rod early and it pulled off. We went further downstream to another hole and struck out there as well, except for MrWiskers nailing a pesky small 1/2 blue cat with a 20lb hookset. We ended up at Moccasin Bend on the outside bend in little or no current and I got my chance with a 12 pounder that slammed my bait. :) MrWiskers and Alvin used frozen skipjack and threadfin. My secret bait (SPAM) came through for me again, which was surprising even in no current. No adverse digestive effects were seen in the fish I caught...I guess it was released prior to pooping the boat..:) My reports have been so poor lately I was thinking of going back to cutbait but I think I'll keep using the SPAM for now! It's cheap, not as bloody and messy as cut bait, catfish love it, but it's hard to cast and keep on the hook so I only use it for vertical fishing. Thanks MrWiskers for haulin me around today and putting us on a few fish!

I gave that 1/2 lber everything I had!!! No lie this fish was all of 12 inches. I had shad in the ice box larger than this thing. He had to hit is 3-4 times before I was able to get a hook in him. See anyone can hook a 10-20 lb cat but it takes SKILL to catch the 1/2 lbers.

Today was one of, if not the, toughest catfishing days I have had all year. It all started off with Alvin pull off on a good fish and then a few minutes later me loosing about $3 worth of tackle AND breaking one of rods getting hung on the bottom. I still had a good time being the guide for you and Alvin and look forward to doing it again.

Congrats to everyone who had a picture fish!

No other fish in our boat. G-3 landed his keeper within the first hour and that was all of our fish for the day. G-3 should be emailing you the pictures. We had a few other strikes but couldn't get any hookups. Had a blast though and it was fun to fish with everybody.

Thanks David for putting it all together and I look forward to doing it again (maybe when this weather cools off a little).

My pictures will be uploaded as soon as my wife does it for meemoCool . BulletJon and I head out on the lake side and started off really well, but died off just as fast. We landed 2 fish Jon got a 19 pounder by 7:35 and I landed an 11 lber by 8:45 and after that just a few bites. WE were fishing a bank between Pangle slew and Privateer marina, there is a ledge there that drops from 20 foot to 45-50 foot within 35-40 yard from the bank. When they are pulling water it is a deadly spot for all sizes of cats,I have been fishing it for 10 years or so and always catch some and never have seen one other person fishing the same spot. Dhaun as soon as I get the pictures in the computer,I'll shoot them to you. Had a great time and can't waite to do it again,It was great meeting everybody!!

congratulations to all that fished this CAT THING... Drc, you done good. and to the rest, you are special just to be out in the heat....emoGeezer

Good looking fish there fell'as, glad to see you all hooking a few good ones. Congrats to all the winners.emoParty Jmax

Great reports and great pics! Sounds like everyone had a good day. The weather wasn't as bad as it could have been. Thanks for the reports guys!emoThumbsup

42-2!!!

emoWorthy drc is the man.

I took the liberty of posting his picture on http://www.Chattanoogan.com/Outdoors

drc went fishing with me back earlier this year... of course wanted to pick my brain and see what he could learn. I've figured out this young man knows more about "big cattin'" than most of us twice (or three times) his age.

Congrats to everybody... and thanks for the "Spam" tip. Looks like I'm going to be doing all my bait-buyin' at Bi-Lo.

I wanted to post this pic as well as it is one I can relate to. drc co-angler simalot got second place with a great pic and a perfect expression after a Cat Battle! It reminds me of why I like to target them...They look like a shark coming up under the boat sometimes when you land one with a wide head. I only caught one small fish today but I still felt like "Yo - You want some of me!" after a good Cat Battle myself! The fish I caught today still wanted to twist my arm off as it thrashed around while I tried to release it. Great catch Simalot! emoThumbsup

DHaun , how did you get that fish out of your pocket, all but his tail anyway

Yep, I guess it does look like I pulled it out of my pocket...tail was curled. That was a mean fish brought up green and bowed-up emoLaugh

You guys got some nice fish for just fishing a few short hours. Is the cat battle going to be an annual thing DHAUN? Or are you going to have more tournaments than that?

Good reports, guys. Wish that I could have been with you on this day, but had other commitments. Dhaun, I had heard of the spam bait years ago, but never have used it. I guess that I'll have to add that to my arsenal.:) emoGeezer

Congrats to drc who had a great day of fishing. Bait bucket and myself decided to stay down next to the dam ( on the lake side ) where I caught the 60 lb fish Thursday. That didn't work out very well, we only had 4 fish and they were small. It was good to meet everyone and find out a few things. One thing I have to say, DRC is a catfishing machine.
