Sorry for the late post guys. Having to net trashfisher's, I mean Dhaun's big drums yesterday wore me out. Here are the results for the tournament.

1st place and big fish went to Goat and Brad with a total weight of 8.23 lbs with a 3.83 lb largemouth that was good for big fish.

2nd place went to Beetlespin and Dhaun with the only five fish limit weighing in at 7.70 lbs. Dhaun had a nice spaaaaattt that weighed 3.20 lbs. It was probably the prettiest one I have ever seen in the TN river.

3rd place went to Drdetroit and Tom with 3.67 lbs.

4th place went to fishheadspin and BassmanIU with a chunk spaaatt that weighed in at 3.42 lbs.

5th place went to xroadbasser and Cody Holloway with three keepers weighing in at 3.31 lbs.

6th place went to redbone and Tom with 2.85 lbs.

7th place went to Nighthawk and Brad with 2.43 lbs.

We had a total of ten boats with only the seven above weighing any fish. It was a very tough day on the river just as I thought it would be. I appreciate everyone showing up for what turned out to be a decent day weatherwise.

Dhaun, you were almost good enough to carry us to victory. You have become a fairly proficient Sppppppaaaaaaattttt catcher with those jigs.

As far as our report goes, every fish was caught on either a black 1/2 ounce jig with a gray grub trailer, or a brown/green 1/2 ounce jig with a green pumkin zoom trailer. I would be stretching things if I said we found a pattern because we didn't. Most of our fish were caught on breaks in 10-25 feet of water. Dhaun caught the big one in an eddy but if he reveals the location I will kill him!!!

Beetlespin basically summed up our strategy for this tournament - jig fishing current breaks. Our morning started out very slow with only a couple shy bites for the first 2 hours then our first fish was a 12-15 lb drum I landed off a point, which has re-enforced my true trashfishing abilities to Beetle :) After that I was able to catch a small spot and we had our first keeper. Beetle was getting frustrated at losing about 5 jigs in a row and not scoring a single fish. He warned me he was about to throw one of his fits and after he caught a small, mud-skinned drum we decided to change locations to find some fish.

In the past we have fished numerous breaks along the river...some days they hold little and others they hold fish. We stopped at a spot that looks great but had not yielded any good fish for us the past 2 trips. In about 20 minutes we caught 4 keepers off this hole that I am officially naming "Beetlespin Point" as he knew where they would be and nailed 2 keepers as soon as we pulled up. One of the fish we caught from this hole was my personal best spot...so our morning rapidly went from a couple of drum with a 12" spot in the livewell to being ready to cull the next fish.

Beetlespin is a great guide and a pro at jig fishing - I have learned a lot from him. I have to say its great fun and I am hooked on jigs for river bass fishing - Great tournament Beetlespin! emoThumbsup

Sandskeeter and I hit the spot were AlvinC and I put 40+ in the boat on Sunday only to find our structure high and dry. I would like to personally thank TVA for helping me not catch fish in another tourny. With my first pattern busted we hit the spot were I caught the 4lb smallie last week only to find 10-11.999999" spots. That was the story for the whole day. Short fish. We put 20 bass in the boat Saturday and measured 10 of them with only 1 keeper (not worth weighting in). The river was down 1.5-2 feet which I am pretty sure had much more to do with us not catching keepers than the cold front.

We did catch fish however which at least keep us entertained all day. I will also say that is the coldest I have ever been fishing and we had ice forming on the sides of the boat.

Could copy and paste Mr Whislers report on here and not write anything else and it would come very close to summerizing our day.....except for the 20 fish they caught. We probably didn't catch 8 but we were lucky enough to capture 3 keeps!! Had another fish on that was probably 12"+ but it escaped about 10 feet from the boat and would have probably got us 3rd. We, like Mr. Whiskers went to a bank where we caught several "quality" spots last weekend but they just wouldn't cooperate Saturday and I spent way too much time on them trying to get them to bite. Our 3 keeps came on 4 inch zoom worms (green pumpkin) in 10 - 15 feet of water. Should have seen the unlucky pattern early as seconds before blast-off I went to put my gloves on and only had my left one in the boat...had to drive with one arm so I had one frozen hand and one spent arm when we started fishing!! I cannot remember ever seeing a more beautiful spaaaaat than the one Dhaun had.....could it be that all the pretty spots school up with the lunker DRUM?? And congrats to "TEAM GOAT" for their win and is there any truth to the rumor that you guys caught the winning stringer on Wormhooks grub green beetlespins???

I'm gonna 2nd that...(same as above)</p>

Basically, Alvin C and I went on a boat ride with battery problems...a very cold boat ride.

According to the calendar there were 15 CFF members who fished this event and only a few have posted a report with any pattern or strategy mentioned. Thanks to those who have contributed to the site.

CFF is fueled by fishing reports and CFF Tournaments are intended to be a catalyst for reports - even if you only caught 1-2 keepers or a bad day fishing anglers should share their experience and strategy, successful or not we can all learn something from generic patterns and tactics used.

Maybe I need to make a clarification to CFF tournament rules or make them more visible and concise. I know it's still early in the week, but I really hope we have more reports posted than this...Please post your reports when you have time.

-Thanks
David

Sorry, so late for the report. Wow, what a cold blisttery day. Got to fish with Dr. Detroit and man what a day it was. I realize that a man really has to be a little off in the head or really love this sport called fishing. I really was hoping the wind was going to lay down but no so luck. Hit some holes that Dr. and I really slayed them on just Tuesday but the fish were no where to be found. Or should I say the good fish were no where to be found. We probably caught six or seven smallmouth but could only get one to exceed the 18 inch mark. Had several in the 14 to 17 1/2 inch range. Caught fish all day long just could'nt put together more than two keepers. The smallmouth and a 13 inch spot. All the smallmouth came off a tube in green glitter and the spot came off a 1/2 oz. pig n jig in brown and black. Fish were caught in 16 to 20 ft. deep down around Baylor School. Almost did not even take our two fish to the scales, but decided what the heck. Good enough for third for what ever that is worth. This was only my second tournament with CCF and hopefully it will not be my last. Thanks for all your hospitality. Also, I told Dr.Detroit when I saw Goat show up we would probably be fishing for second. HA! HA! Good job Goat. emoToast

SORRY I AM SO LATE.REALLY ENJOYED FISHING SAT. AND MEETING SOME OF THE FISHERMEN.TURNED OUT TO BE A PRETTY GOOD DAY ON THE WATER BUT A LITTLE CHILLY BOAT RIDE TO CATCH THAT LARGE MOUTH.THE FISH WERE NOT WHERE WE THOUGHT THEY WOULD BE. ODD ENOUGH WE CAUGHT ALL 4 OF OUR FISH IN THE SAME SPOT AND THE SAME DEPTH 6'. A SMALL FLAT OFF THE RIVER CHANNEL AROUND BAYLOR SCHOOL.CAUGHT SEVERAL FISH IN THIS AREA THAT WOULD NOT MEASURE ON A CRANKBAIT AND CAUGHT ALL 4 KEEPERS ON A JIG AND PORK COMBO.(NOT A BITE ON THE GREEN BEETLESPIN).I WAS REALLY SURPRISED I THAUGHT FOR SURE SOMEONE WOULD HAVE A LARGE STRINGER OF SMALLMOUTH AFTER ALL THE REPORTS FROM LAST WEEK.LOOKING FORWARD TO FISHING WITH YOU AGAIN. MAY SEE YOU @ HARRISON BAY THIS WEEKEND.

Sorry for the late post went to see the shrink after the day we had. We fished a grub most of the day with little success. the one keeper we did had came off the smoke grub @ 12' deep. Tried the spoon no luck there. Some good lookin fish caught though.

Wiskers pretty much summed it up for us that day. The falling water pretty much wasted the pattern that we had caught them on last week....Still caught quite a few fish they just were all so small. That chart. pepper tube that wiskers swears buy is a spotkiller for sure.. I tried slowrolling my spinnerbait that I used last week and came up with nothing..Congrats to the winners and there were some really nice fish brought in....This may be my last trip till I go down to Toho in January so I appreciate being able to participate in another fine CFF tourney
