Anybody here interested in having a weight loss contest in 2009? Unfortunately fishing is not the most weight friendly sport out there and quite a few of us are on the heavy side. I am 6'2" and weighed 282 pounds this morning. I need to weigh 225 pounds. Anybody else interested. We could structure the bet to make it interesting. Any suggestions.

Well I know I dang sure need to drop some as well. Im roughly 6'2"ish and bout 300......but I dont get cold! emoBigsmile

We had a contest at work last year (Feb -April). We had a wheel that the weekly loser had to spin and anything it landed on they had to do. We based ours on percentage of total body weight lost rather than pounds due to size differences. (A 300 pounder has a lot more to lose than a 220)

This is what the wheel had on it.

Wear a hair net and beard net in Chili's at noon. (We are a food plant so we had plenty of both).
Gargle Horseradish.
Wear a polka Dotted Bow Tie for a week.
Walk in front of the plant on the sidewalk with a sign that read "Honk if you think I am fat".
Butler for a week (The weekly loser had to be the weekly winners butler for a week).
Sing the National Anthem in front of the first shift employees.

I laughed until I literally had tears running down my face at Chili's. The most deadpan guy we have landed on the beard/hairnet slot. He wore them in and the wait staff didn't know how to react. They would peak around corners at him, start toward the table and turn around. He kept a straight face the whole time and acted like it was normal for him to be wearing that. I on the other hand was dying laughing and could not eat.

I don't know if I'm interested in having a weight loss contest, but I definitely am going to lose weight, beginning Jan 2nd. I would love to be under 200 again. emoBigsmile emoGeezer

lol For me its kind of a yearly thing. Im not terrible, but Im 6' and like to be 180. Each year between Thanksgiving and New Years I hover between 190-200. I call it my "winter coat." emoSmile
So to answer your question, sure, I'm down.

Beetlespin, I started out 2006 at 250 lbs, by Jan 2007 I was down to 185. I've slowly worked my way up 203, and I'm ready to get back down in the low 190s. I'd be game.

Everyone that is serious about losing weight needs to go here: www.absdiet.com

It is the most amazing eating system out there. I don't call it a diet because you get to eat lots of great foods. Be sure you check it out. It works!!!

Albert, you haven't seen your feet in years. You tie your shoes on the side or wear those pink crocs that MadBomber gave you. You are just like me. FAT! When you get on the scales, it gives the message, 'one at a time'. Let's both try to recover our youthful physique. I'm fat and getting slimmer beginning Jan 2nd. Love ya brother. emoBigsmile emoGeezer

I have already started my weight loss program, I took both dogs on a 2 mile hike on the road behind the house, both dogs were on a leash, one wanted to go one way and the other dog wanted to go the other, by the time I got back to the house I felt like I had lost 50 poundsemoLaugh Which I know I didn't, now i am hungry and tired. At 6'-4" and around 250 pounds I need to lose some weight, the older I get the easier it is to put the pounds on and the holidays don't help any to make me slim down to my schoolboy figure, I would like to get back to around 200 if this is possible, maybe after the holidays I can do better. I could probably do the deed if I was locked up and kept away from Cracker Barrel, pizzas, Taco Bell, and a few other greasy spoons.

I participated in a weight loss contest a few years back. Everyone contributed $10.00 initially. Weight loss was also figured on the percentage of starting weight. There was a weigh-in every Monday and the one who lost the most weight the past week did not have to contribute any money to the pot. Everyone else contributed $2.00. The contest lasted 3 months. The winner (I came in 2nd) collected close to $800.00 one week before Christmas. The same scale was used every time. I'm game for a contest.

in o6 when i had my openheart surgery i weighed 274.after they told me i was a diabetic an if i wanted to live.in which i thought about my granddaughter an taking her fishing one day .i got on the treadmill an got down to 239.now i am back up to 242.two weeks ago i went back to the doc for a check up he went off on me .said YOU ARE NOT ON YOUR TREAD MILL ARE YOU.i said how did you know.so yes i am interested.he said if i got down to 200 i could through my pills away.that would be nice

Sure go ahead and have a contest after I've dropped a solid 20+ lbs in the last few months!!!! Dang Lance.... I'm proud of you brotha! That's an admirable goal. For any of you that wonder how to.... I did the Diet Pepsi/Diet Coke thing for YEARS! I cut that out and sweet tea, drink a TON of water now and that rapidly shed some pounds right off the bat. You may not think Diet drinks can do that, but the sodium (salt for the slow ones) is LOADED in those things. I feel better and notice a HUGE difference in my body's response with switching to water. Rarely have had a diet coke/pepsi in 5 mos. Worry will also do wonders for your weight.

I'm not too fat.  Just too short for my weight.emoTongue

Me too! I think my ideal height for my weight is somewhere around 8'3-1/2"

Lance, this is a great thread. Most of my business is making people healthier and losing weight is a great way to start. I need to loose about 15-20 lbs myself and haven't been doing all that well in achieving the loss. There are lots of advantages to loosing weight and there are lots of ways to figure out what your optimal weight is. Here's an on line calculator for your ideal body weight: http://www.halls.md/ideal-weight/body.htm Just put your height, age, gender, and weight in the calculator and it will calculate your ideal body weight. Insurance companies use statistics to figure out if you and I are a good insurance risk or not. The calculator gives other numbers at the bottom of the page to show different calculations of a person's ideal body weight. When you look at the numbers that are generated you will be surprised how much weight would be reccomended for you to loose. The numbers generated have a lot of statistics behind them that show that having a BMI(Body Mass Index) of between 19 and 25 is really where we should set our sights on for being more healthy. There are lots of advantages in being lighter from a medical standpoint. Many people that have diabetes, hypertension, and high cholesterol can have those medical problems totally controlled or at least much more easily controlled if they have a BMI of 19-25.

I think that it's a great goal for us to loose weight together and encourage one another in that direction whenever we interact, here or in person.

I have a BMI calculator at work that I use and would expect that the calculator on the above website is reliable as the numbers that it calculated for me are approximately correct but I cannot vouch for anything else on that particular website as I have not reviewed all of the info there. From what I have seen it looks okay.

I think that the ideas about changing the numbers of calories that we take in in our drinks is a great idea. Does anyone else have some good ideas that have worked for them to loose weight?

For me to loose weight I have to stop eating white flour, white rice, corn, sugar, and any product made with them. I won't do "low carb" like Atkins but I will do sugar busters or abs because they make sense. Carbs come from fruits like apples, berries, grapefruits, etc. The only cereal I eat much of is Fiber One or McCann's Steal Cut Oatmeal. I don't really eliminate and meats or dairy except ice cream and I make lots of Abs smoothies made with berries, milk, peanut butter, whey protein powder, and plain organic yogurt.

Its a good diet. The first day or two is tough because your body will actually withdraw from junk food. After you get established though, your mind clears out, you feel smarter, and you just feel better. The human body is not designed to run on high fructose corn syrup, white flour or any other highly refined product. You will be surprised at just how much your appetite will decrease if you stop eating the foods I just mentioned.
