Well, Michael and I just got back from CFF's night tourny. It was great to put a lot of faces with names and we had a great time at dinner. The weather only cooperated periodically and it drizzled on us most of the night. I missed a good fish on a Zoom Horny toad shortly after we got started. A few minutes later Michael nailed our first keeper, at 8:40 on a 3/8 white/chart spinnerbait off of a clay bank in a couple of feet of water. Michael caught a couple more dinks on SB and pulled a KVD by slinging a bass over the boat. There went second place ;) . We didn't do so hot for about an hour but the hole I have been catching them on doesn't start to produce until around 10. We started crushing them on T-rigged worms. Most wouldn't keep. We were sitting in 12 feet and casting up to around 3 ft. It's not a steep slope and is right near a deep water point. There is only sporadic cover on the area and you wouldn't even think to fish it. That's where our final 3 keepers came from. 2 of them on the T-rigged lizard and one from a 1oz purple SB with a large Colorado blade. We finished with 9.59 on 4 bass which was good for 3rd place. We didn't get any pictures other than a monster smallie that was weighed in, just over 5lbs. I'm sure that Pointer will be posting all of the results tomorrow. Thanks to everyone who showed up, we had a great time and need to do it more often.

RE: CFF7

wah!!!! I'm sitting here at 4 AM licking my wounds. Not even a bite tonight although my partner caught a nice 2.85 er on a worm. What happened??? Thursday they wouldn't stay off our hook .. and tonight they wouldn't even glace at it. :-(

Boy ... fishing is difficult!!! But besides the disappointment of bringing in nothing to weigh in of my own but a tree branch that was brought down by a crank bait ... the people were as great as I had suspected. Got to meet many of them whose post I admire and whose fishing talents I now yearn for.

I will say .. night fising is definately a different beast! Thanks again for organizing it and running things great ... I hope to join in more and get to know all of you. It's worth it!

Man .. wonder if I'll ever plane out so I can go to sleep.

What a nice Smallie that one was, and congrats to all who got in the money!

OH by the way Davo .. it IS tomorrow!

RE: CFF7

I had a great time tonight, and a great partner. Jason is a heck of a nice guy and I look forward to fishing with him again. Thanks Pointer for your hard work in organizing this event., and thanks RR and Jmax for your involvement.

Jason caught our only keeper of the night, and it was 15 1/4 inches. We caught fish but they were short. We caught them on TR worm, and black SB. I learned not to second guess myself after the Tx. I had a plan to fish some rip-rap, but I led us astray. Jason was patient and game to do whatever we could to catch fish. I wish we could have faired better, but hindsight is 20-20.

RE: CFF7

Congrats to all the brave souls who participated in CFF7. I found out a few years ago that I am Skeer'd of the dark!! However, the thoughts of giant Brown Fish lurking around kinda tempers that fear.

I'm glad that all went safely. That there were no mishaps with boaters or weather.

I'm looking forward to all the reports. I wish that when folks post photos that they would name the people so we could put faces with the usernames. emoSmile

RE: CFF7

Fishing Fire and I didn't fish the TX but kinda wish we had of now. We did really well on top water, with a Heddon Torpedo. Managed 7 good solid keepers, one a little over 3 and lots of smaller fish. It was really cool to watch the boats coming up the river from blast off. We kept looking at our watches and sure enough about 5 minutes after deadline here everyone came. Saw a couple of guys in a Black Tracker (we were in a Blue one) that I am sure was in the TX, but we never got close enough to one another to make out any details. Congrats to the winners, it was a little bit of an iffy night what with the rain and thunder on and off.

RE: CFF7

Flip1up and I caught about 12 fish on topwater, crankbait, jig, and worms fishing a bit on topwater early and moving to purple worm later. We fished points dropping from 3-4 ft into 8-15 ft catching several in about 7ft just off some brush. We had one keeper spot for the livewell and all others were short. It didn't rain too bad and I don't think I ever saw any lightning so the weather was pretty good to us. I have some pre-launch pics that I plan to post later. I had a great time night fishing - thanks flip for boating me around!

RE: CFF7

Fishin Fool...there were 2 Trackers out there last night. Where were you? After blast off I went directly into Chester Frost.

Had a great time but Im waiting to post my night details in the Results post.

RE: CFF7

Just woke up from a 3 hour nap ... night fishing is fun but boy sure screws up the day after! But ... I can answer a few questions about the CFF7.

I think they said 22 boats, I know one group had limit ... 2 had 4 and 1 had 3, the rest of us had one or two.

That was a BIG smallie and impressive.

I wanted to thank a few folks ... BassBullet for taking me along for the ride ... since I didn't catch any fish. And Flip for throw'in me a rain coat before blast off. Although I thought a wet tshirt contest would have been fun! :)

And all the other members who showed up because there wasn't an unfriendly one in the bunch.

I can't wait for the picnic and hope you all try to come. THEN .. I will get a chance to talk to you and learn something about you and your familes. The tx is a nice get together .. but you don't have time to converse. I look forward to that opportunity.

Thanks again for the fun ... The organizers deserve a hand and the helpers too. Pointer, Jmax, RR ... cudos.

RE: CFF7

I really enjoyed fishing the chick last night with everybody. Thanks pointer for hosting a great tourney.... My brother in law Mike Breeden who just moved back to Rising Fawn after being in Texas forever fished his first tournement with me last night...I have only fished up here twice so i stayed pretty close to the launch. We started over by Island cove fishing some docks and all we caught were small dinks... About 10 we went over to a flat that pointer and me had fished a few weeks back and i ended up losing one at the boat. We fished a point that dropped off toward the river channel and thats when Mike hung that smallie ...I didnt realize what was going on till i shined my light back and seen that 6 ft spinning rod bent double.. I grabbed the net and got back there to see what was going on...That little diawa reel was a screaming...Since he wasnt coming up the first thing that went through my mind was he hooke a cat... but after that brownie slapped the bottom of the boat a few times I knew it was Big Momma...the fish stayed down for a few minutes and went it finally came to the top it was as big as my net..it was hooked good in the mouth and i scooped it up.. i could not believe it...Just a few hours earlier i was having to show Mike how to fish a texas rigged bait and now he jerks a knot in the head of a fish of a lifetime...The fish was 23 inches long and came in at 5.34 a few minutes later i lost another keeper smallie from the same area...We was fishing a green pumpkin Yum Sooie texas rigged . Congrats to Mike on his trophy.. Fish was released alive at Harison Bay to make someone elses day.......I thinks he is gonna get a replica made. i know i would

Congrats on the beautiful smallmouth and all the winners! 3rd Shift fishing seperates the men (or women) from the boys (or girls). When I was a young man, I'd work a double-shift, go fish for 8, then back to work for another shift and then maybe think about a nap before going fishing again. These days if I fish 3rd shift, it takes me two days to recover. What happened??? emoScratch

My brother in law and I started out fishing a bank that had some blowdowns in about 8 foot of water with the main channel right next to them. The channel swings in close to the bank and then goes back out. My brother in law was using a white super fluke and I was using a dark sb with #5 blade. My brother in law had one nail his fluke and break him off in the blowdown, keed in mind he was using 1 year old 8lb test. He tied back on casted back to the same spot and the fish came back and nailed it again but this time he got the fish and his other fluke back in the boat. We had our first keeper in his first two casts. Right after he landed his I casted and landed our second keeper. We moved up the bank a little ways when my brother in law landed his second and our third keeper. After a few minutes of nothing my brother in law had another one on but the fish decided that he wanted nothing to do with my livewell so he darted for the deeper water and snap, broke my brother in laws 8lb test. By this time I was offering him one of my fishing rods but he refused. We caught all of our keepers in about a 40-50 yard stretch of bank, the rest of the time we just caught short fish a couple of 14.9 and 14.8 on a hump using a c-rig with black worm. I will spend the rest of what is left of today cleaning willowflys out of my boat. I got hung in a tree with my favorite sb and did not want to loose it. I pulled up to the tree and started trying to shake it free and every single willowfly in that tree landed in my boat, but atleast i got my sb back. Anyways, we both had a blast. Thanks pointer, thanks DHaun nice to meet both of you. Glad to get to meet some of the members of this great forum. Thanks Ranger Rob for the buzzbaits. Time to go clean willowflys.

RE: CFF7

When is the next one? Like the other CFF tourneys, this was a well organized and low-key event that enabled myself to put yet another few faces to user names. I must admit, I was really unsure of what to expect on the Chick at night. However, jtf and I kept it simple and did not go far...where do you go in a sea of blackness? We spent most of the evening on a long point and on a few ridges where we caught bass that wouldn't measure up. Around 1:30, we're talking fish and I mention that I spent the day at Booker T catching spots along rip-rap. Oddly enough, jtf had originally intended to fish the 58 rip-rap and just never brought it up. Off we go and immediately start catching them at 1:40 or so...ditto to the hindsights 20/20! Congrats again to Perchjerker and fishinmagician for the spanking they gave us!

I must say it was great to get back out and do a little night fishing on the Chick. Thanks Pointer , JMax and all who helped, great event!!
TNDOE and I didn't prefish at all and hadn't fished a night "t" together in some 15 years but had a great time Sat. night even though it was a slow bite.
We started in an area not far from Wolftever, throwing a C-rig up into 12ft and bring it back to about 27ft. We didn't get a single hit on the C-rig. We tried another place similar to the first spot and didn't get a bite. DD22 had given TNDOE a location to fish early, where we should get at least a small limit however with the uncertainty of the rain and all, we done things our way (wrong)! Third stop was Rock bank and a good point , next to deep water. I had several light taps on a t-rig worm however I couldn't get them to hang on to it? This continued to happen and thinking it was dinks or gills, I remained confused! Finally our 6th stop around 12:45 we hit some rip rap next to deep water and the same thing was happening . Small taps yet no results. I finally received a small tap as my partner was...catching big fish one after another....(the only thing about that was ....it was in during her 15 min. power nap!!!!!!). I slightly lifted the worm and I set the hook... I startled tndoe when I said get the net, she replied ."lift the !#@%^@ thing"! ....3lb LM! I should of changed to a small finess bait or get-zit but stayed with the worm. We caught 5 or 6 more fish going down that bank but all short! All in all it was a good night and hope to have another night "t" on the Chick!

Good report JVS, sounds like you and JTF both second guessed yourselves and should have stuck to the first plan. I saw you guys go into your first spot and my son and I had the same problem where we went. Light taps and hits with no good hook sets. I have come to believe for us anyways that the change in the weather effects the shallow bite a lot quicker and more. I had been catching bass consistently in shallow water where I went and that night could not keep them on at all or they would miss all togather. Up where we were you would know the rain would be bad. I think that storm coming through effected those bass. than when we moved out to the main lake and got into deeper water where the change was not as detected by the bass I could keep them on. Well so much for second guessing, that's my story and I am sticking to it.;) Jmax
