My wife and I will be fishing Chick for the first time in late April, staying at the Island Cove Marina motel. Our fishing trips are rarely "fishing only" and we like to take in some of the local color. We are big on aquariums and have visited the National Aquarium (both locations) the Shedd Aquarium, and are members of the Cleveland Aquarium. Atlanta's aquarium is on our bucket list.

Frankly, I never knew that Chattanooga even had an aquarium but we will for sure be visiting it now that I've visited their website and see how nice it seems to be. Any reviews or tips ahead of time?

Also, what other tourist type things should we consider in the area? Remember, we're 64 years old so roller coasters are out. LOL.

Since you plan on going to the aquarium, if you like baseball, there is a double A team called the Chattanooga Lookouts and their stadium is right down the road from the aquarium. Can even park in same garage. Ive gone to aquarium early then walked to a game at night with my wife. You can check their schedule and catch a game. They are the double A affiliate of the LA Dodgers. I really enjoy the games.

Also check out the River Gorge Explorer. Its an auarium atraction where the take you on a boat ride on the river. Ive never done it but my wife says its really good.

ENGEL STADUIUM AND THE CHATTANOOGA ZOO ARE WITHIN 2 OR 3 BLOCKS OF EACH OTHER..

GREAT PLAYERS SUCH AS BABE RUTH HAVE PLAYED AT ENGEL STADIUM

CHATTANOOGA IS ALSO RICH IN CIVIL WAR HISTORY AND YOU CAN RIDE THE INCLINE UP LOOKOUT MTN. AND SEE SOME HISTORY UP THERE AT THE TOP.

THEN THERE'S THE CHATTANOOGA CHOO CHOO, THE NATIONAL TOWING MUSEUM, THE HUNTER ART MUSEUM WHICH IS JUST BLOCKS FROM THE AQUARIUM. THERE'S MORE BUT I'LL LET OTHERS CHIME IN.

HOPE YOU ALL HAVE A GREAT TIME THE FISHING SHOULD BE GREAT THEN.

The aquarium is a must..the river gorge explorer is a roller coaster without the rollers! Awesome experience if your into water and boats as well as sight seeing!

You can't come to Chattanooga without visiting the Choo-Choo. You also have to "See Rock City" And +1 on the aquarium and the Lookouts. Makes for a great vacation.

Ride the Incline from the bottom of Lookout Mtn to the top and walk down to Point Park for the view of the city. If your wife is an antique mall fan-go to the North Shore on the river to the Knitting Mill antique mall and then go to Nikkies for a great lunch.
Or you can schedule ahead and tour the incredible JMax Mansion!

The aquarium is great. IMO better than Atlanta's. Lot of freshwater exibits which is totally differant than most aquariums.

Boathouse restaurant overlooking the river. Sit outside - appetizers or meals are good and the beverage choice as well. Don't miss the walking bridge either

As you can see there is a lot of things to see and do in this area. Lots of free stuff also, Foster Falls, Fall Creek Falls, Russell's cave and just a drive up past Cleveland following the Ocoee river.
My wife and I visited here from Ohio for a few years and then just moved down here last year. You have already found one of the best lakes for fishing and the best fishing forum to ask questions, so you shouldn't have any trouble finding things to keep you busy. I hope you planning on staying a month or more. :)

Actually, there are lots of people who think the Chattanooga aquarium is better than Atlanta's. Actually, I don't know anyone who likes Atlanta's better than Chatty's. But I have heard the Ripley's Aquarium in Gatlinburg is AMAZING!!!

Wow! You guys are hitting on all my cylinders. Baseball? We've been part of a season ticket group for the Cleveland Indians since 1993 and attend their AA affiliate, Akron Aeros (renamed this year the Rubber Ducks) games whenever we can. History? I majored in history in college and still get tears in my eyes at Gettysburg where we've been several times.

Fresh water exhibits? Wonderful! When we went to Shedd in Chicago it seemed about 75% salt. We are hobby fresh water aquarists so this is great! The sightseeing and restaurants sound fantastic. I hope we have enough time to fish. LOL

Thanks guys, and BTW, it is great to see such civic pride.

Jake

P.S. to Jammer - Go Bucks!

When we lived in Akron we used to go to the Aeros games You might want to check out the Chattanooga Ducks trip You ride through town and then out in the river for a sight seeing tour Nice trip

The best hang gliding in the east is a short drive down lookout mtn.
Lookout mountain flight park.

I'm not sure when it starts, may be more of a summer thing....but downtown Chatt on the river has lots of vendors of the weekends on the foot bridge and live music.

The Aquarium is a MUST! I've been there twice and both times it was great (much better than Atlanta), and the crowds are not bad at all.

Who are you fishing with? I'd suggest our very own Richard Simms of Scenic City Fishing Charters... great guy, and an OK fisherman! :)

Also, if you like GREAT craft beer go to lunch at the Terminal. Great food and drink.

I have been to the Baltimore Aquarium and others. Baltimore's fish tanks are impressive but I assure you the layout and design of TN Aquarium is the best. You start at the Top as if in the mountain early stages of the watershed. You follow the water through the cold mountain brooks and through the showpiece Nickajack Exhibit. Then you see the rivers to the marshes in the Delta at the Gulf of Mexico.. Many side exhibits expose you to fish in and around the world. Check out the Penguins. As you can see the suggestions are endless.

If you planned to stay an entire week in Chattanooga, I assure you could not visit all we have to offer in a week.. Just like the Riverpark walking and bike trails from the dam to the city's heart. The walnut Street Bridge and the Glass bottom bridge neat Hunter Art museum is a must. Evenings downtown and in North of the river in all the shops and restaurants is a must. We have state parks and National Civil War Parks in our ares. If you are into Civil War relics you should visit the Museum at Chickamauga Battlefield at Ft Oglethorpe, GA..

There is no way to even recall all we offer here.
