email to director of TN state parks regarding ramp closures

I'm sure the people at TDEC who decided to close the state parks after pressure from the governors decision to "shelter in place" are trying their best for everyone concerned.

I just wish that while the ramps are closed (which i totally disagree with), the state would take advantage of the opportunity and FIX some of the issues i/e holes, lines, trash, broken dock cleats, busted boards, etc.... if your gonna take away OUR stuff why not work on it while you can.

So far the only thing I've seen done at HBSP was a woman putting a fresh coat of white paint over the one way arrows in the upper parking lot. That's probably going to be about it. emoRolleyes

Is it serious? Yes but how serious? 200 people a day die in TN on average. Over 21 die a day in traffic accidents. You are more likely to die driving your boat to the ramp than of COVID19. Is that worth giving up our freedoms and putting all of our small businesses out of business. I think we have taken the wrong approach. Read an article today that CA shut everything down early, FL was late shutting everything down. OK has not shut anything down. Guess what. The rate of sickness and death from this virus is the same in all three states. Not certain what the answer is but what we are doing is crazy.

Bingo!!!!! Look at Sweden, they have continued life as normal other than limiting gatherings to less than 50 people. Infection rates and deaths in line with other countries.......
Just wondering if you are still pumped about the way Sweden chose to handle this. They have over double the reported cases of their neighbors. Their death rates are unreal. I guess one way to deal with it is, business as usual and let the weak and old die.

Their death rate percentage is still quite a bit lower than some of their neighbors

So I wonder if the people who have boat slips at HBSP are going to get a refund for time they couldnt get to their boats.. I know of a tech from ADS who lives on his boat there I wonder if he is barred from getting down to it.. I completely understand closing the park but the ramp!! We all know not to have tournaments so that should not be an issue!! Unbelievable

Boat owners have access to their boats. A sign out front at the entrance. I either call the office or a ranger and they come let me in. When I'm ready to leave -- they come let me out. I was there earlier this afternoon.

Update ! Most of Tennessee's 56 state parks will reopen Friday -- April 24th. Day use only. No mention if boat ramps will be open at this time.

I got an email back from the park director he said they’re thinking about opening it up with limited access just a certain number of boats.

Just talked with Cynthia in the office. They've been in a meeting most of the morning. It sounds like some limitations for sure. Hopefully they can work something out that can please most people.

here ya go:
"Mr. White,
Thanks for the follow up. Parks will be opening for day use on April 24th. The only limits on boat ramps will that they are open during those day use hours, and limits associated with Parking. Usage will be limited to the parking spaces available. I hope that addresses your questions and concerns. If I can provide specific clarification on a specific ramp please let me know."
