Has anyone had any luck fishing the Chatter Bait? The new walmart in Soddy put out a display of them Sunday. Approx $5.50 each.

A friend and I fished them Sunday night with no success. We did catch fish on spinner baits, flukes and lizards.

Tarheel pulled one out at the DU Tx when we were fishing it and he was showing it to me. He cast it out and was pointing out how much vibration it had telling me to look at his rod tip. Right as he was telling me how to fish it and how it worked I was looking at his rod and one slammed it. Kind of neat, felt like I was watching a Bill Dance show and he was walking me through it right up to the hit.;) Problem was that one there was I believe was the only hit he got on it and I was doing better on a spinner bait so he switched.emoScratch I guess you just never know. Jmax

I've had success with them.

When I first heard of these things I thought they were gonna be another Helicopter Lure or a Banjo Minnow.....but I borrowed a white one from a guy at work and fished it around docks and brushpiles in shallow water right after a rain. I couldn't believe how the fish just hammered it. Worked it just like slow-rolling a spinnerbait......in stained water.....just under the surface.

I have since made a few 1/2 oz. of my own and am gonna try them on deep structure.

I fished one for the first time the other day and it was getting hammered, however I only managed to get one in the boat. I am going to have to try a trailer hook but I'm sure that will screw up some of the action of the tail.

I had great success on them during the prespawn period around boat docks and shallow areas. Lately I havnt done so well on them.... Fish seem to really hit them hard but they hang up real easy and fish seem to come loose at the boat.... well worth what I paid for them because I won two tournements with them...

I tried one got a few hits on it mostly small spots. I was also told that you could fish them like a real jig and got hung on everything in the water. I have got hung up less in the front yard with a rattle trap coming thru the yard.LOL I guess I will have to give them another chance at least I more.

I am new to this site and I am finding alot of valuable information. I have had some success on the chatter bait. Most of the fish I have caught while using the chatter bait all have been over 18 in. and I even caught a gar on it at guntersville. You can also take the skirt off of it and put a fluke on it and fish it like that.

Fishin3, they have a new model of chatterbait that will be out soon that you can flip like a jig without the hangups. I have had my best success on the green pumkin color. I tried a black/blue one off and on last night from 9-3 and did not get a hit. My ledgebuster however slaughtered them.

G-Man I was really surprised. I caught a pretty good bass on the first cast I made with a chatterbait and haven't caught one since! I will say that they really need to work on the weedless aspect; I have hung it up in the lightest grass and the blade seems to collect every bit of trash in the lake. I'm sure it will be effective in some situations. I just haven't found them yet!

I really had great success on the Chatterbait early in the spring, during prespawn and especially postspawn. The biggest thing I have found is that you have to figure out the retrieve the fish are wanting.

Thrown it a few times with no results. Have tried it with trailers and fluke body. Not much confidence in it but sounds like I need to try it again this spring around docks.

If Dropshot says they work...believe him! According to the results on FOCBA.org, he has done very well with the Chatterbait.

i have fished with guys that have beat me in tournaments with them and i have had partners catch fish with them after i stopped getting bites on rattletraps for the mourning and they do work (best in the early spring) but he did loose a couple of fish and i've heard if you fish it like a jig you will hang up and loose them a lot. if fished like a spinnerbait they seem to work well withboth the skirt and a fluke trailer is how they look the best to me, don't know how the fish feel?

i bought a kit and built 100 but i haven't made more than 3 cast with them, i do love the vibration and looks, just don't use them enough, but next spring i will.

i have a buddy that told me just 2 weeks ago he had a 8.5 and one over 5 on one, this was his largest bass to date, i was surprised that he was getting fish on them this time of the year? so they have to work.

Caught my first LM on a gold chatterbait post spawn this spring on Melton Hill. Came off a boat dock. Nice fish but it got off.

Ratio of casts to catch not good. Compounded by the fact I did not get the fish in the boat!

Not much confidence in the bait yet but will keep throwing it around docks some.

I know a couple guys who fish the CBA and use them religiously and catch fish on them(good ones). I use them like a jig (kinda). I let it sink to the bottom, pull up (pretty hard) and then let it flutter down(keeping tension on the line) and that's when I get most of my strikes.

Ranger Rob makes the best ones! Especially for the price! I have caught fish on them but have not used them a whole lot!
