Circuit City is going out of business. Does anyone else have an extended warranty with them? I bought one for 5 years on a plasma TV, which still has 3 more years to run. I was told on the phone by Circuit City that I was pretty much out of luck on trying to get a refund for the unused portion of the warranty I paid for. They assured me that the warranty would be honored by another company, but mine was a total replacement warranty, where I just took the TV back to Circuit City. I hope no one else on CFF has purchased a warranty from them. You might want to check your options if you did.

I am not surprised to see them go out. A couple years back they fired all the senior employees and hired new people at lower wages, without commission. A lot of the people they fired were only a couple years away from retirement. The 3400 people they fired were invited to reapply.....at a much lower rate of pay, and without benfits. Most were paid commission prior to the firings. If you've been there three or four years, you get your salary up if you're any good, So they're saying, 'We'll get rid of the most knowledgeable people who have been around the longest and hire people who haven't a clue.' It doesn't make sense to me. Regardless they are all gone now.

Circuit City CEO Schoonover received $1.4 million in salary and bonuses in fiscal 2006, plus 340,000 stock option shares and $96,929 in other compensation mostly related to use of a company jet, according to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission. Looks like he was worth every penny. ;) BTW, when he was finally replaced this past fall, he got a golden parachute.......1.8 million in severance pay.

If you have been to Bestbuy or HH Gregg you will understand why the company is going under. I know it sounds like a lot of money to us but that is not really much compensation for a ceo.

Go to their site, they will tell you all about it. The way I read the rules is if you have a warranty, another company will honor it. The liquididation starts today in a lot of stores, if you buy anything, the warranties are covered by the individual companies that make the items. There should be some great bargains if you are interested, the liquidation companies set the prices.

"Glad to see them go. HHGregg would have put the Chatt store under anyway."

Yeah 34000 more people losing their jobs is just so very wonderful. I am giddy.
