Re: Considering a new boat, what do you think?

nice looking rig...... The only question is do you like it well enough to take the plunge.. what i am saying is does it fit you and your style of fishin... things i look at are...width of frt deck...floor room... do the hatches open the right way.. r there trip spots in the floor( skeeters 20ft comes to mind) are the rod boxes big and long enough....u r going to spend alot of time in this thing make sure it fits you.....good look and congrats

Re: Considering a new boat, what do you think?

Great looking boat no doubt.. I am running a mercury Proxs on my boat and have had mixed results with it. When all is running correctly it will run like the wind however I have had a few problems with it but mercury has stood behind their products 100% which has been awesome and the service after the sale is what has kept me from swapping boats. I would defiantly get the 5yr warranty on the motor.

What boat will you be selling ?

I will either be selling my 2000 Ranger 518VX or trading it in. I have a 200 Fitch Evinrude on it, the boat is 19 feet long and everything on the boat works. The rig needs to have some TLC. Jmax

Did u get the motor fixed Jim? Wat was the issue?

In the process. It appears the valve on the gas switch is leaking. It is causing air to get in and messing up the pressure of the fuel pump. Changed out the fuel pump and have a new valve kit on order coming. There also may be a reed issue that is all tied in to this problem. We will know this by tomorrow. If needed the reed will be replaced as well. These three issues are not big ones but they are a hassle to get to and fix. Not sure yet but it would appear that the air leaked in as gas leaked out of the valve, this messed up the reed and the fuel pump pressure. emoRolleyes Jmax

Re: Considering a new boat, what do you think?

I honestly don't see how anyone could ever down a ranger. They are one of the best riding boats made and the best fishing boat made. This boat is beautiful and a dream rig!! Hope you go for it you'll love it.

Re: Considering a new boat, what do you think?

Jim, there is a Merc service bulletin regarding the reeds/reed blocks on some of the 2013 XS's. Serial Number Range of: 1B976519–2B012682. Your dealer will probably be aware of this.

As was mentioned above, look into getting all the Merc PLATINUM level warranty coverage they will allow. Your dealer should have some incentives they can offer.

RE: Considering a new boat, what do you think?

It doesnt matter which motor you buy, they all can give trouble. I know you are a Ranger guy, but I would have to look at some others before spending those kinds of $$$. A 21' Bullet would be my first choice, them probably a Phoenix. simply my .02

Holy Moly Jmax -- you're so tight you squeeze a penny until ol Abe is screaming emoLaugh - you must really have it bad for a new rig emoLaugh . As has been said and you and I have talked often -- -life is short --- too short to have aggravation involved with the things a person wants to do to "relax" so pull the trigger and I'll be more than happy to hold the back seat of that bass yacht down any chance I get emoParty That is one first class rig --- heck I know we would catch more fish in it and for sure look better doing it emoThumbsup . I'm not worthy emoWorthy to ride around in such luxury but I can swing a mean net emoBigsmile .

You know me well. Then again, one reason I can look at buying one is because I am tight and have about a nickel of the first dime I ever made. ;) The funny part of all of this is Derek has been around me this whole time in the topic and today he just about got him a new boat. He may have it by tomorrow. emoEek Looks like I rubbed off on him and he told me his bank account is going to hate me. I will say no more and let him post something about it. I am sure he will if he drives away with it tomorrow. emoBigsmile Jmax

I have one that has a better motor, looks better, and can be bought for much less.

I love your boat too. I am just a red man. I have to have one with a good amount of red on it. Since this may be the last boat I ever buy I want to get the boat and color right for me. Let it be known that you want to sell yours and someone may jump all over that one. emoAngel Jmax

I have had coil issues, blown a lower unit, blown the air compressor, and blown the CPU. There were never any issues with getting anything covered under warranty. My dealer just shakes their head when I walk in the door.. lol evidently my experiences are not normal.
