Please give us your input concerning this possible change. We do not want to make anyone upset and if deemed necessary we will continue with the original date of this SATURDAY. However we would like input from the participants. We will confirm the date by Tuesday (28th) evening. ONCE AGAIN THIS WAS JUST A SUGGESTION and to see if there have been any arrangements made from out of town folks or family members which have made plans to participate this weekend.
CONCERNING CRACKERFEST:
This year has started out being a real challenge with getting donations due to our economy.
I also have not worked near as hard toward CRACKERFEST as I have in the years past. With the new addition of a baby boy to the family and also the passing of my Mom a few weeks back I have let Crackerfest slip up on me and have not been able to get hardly any donations. I believe Hamilton’s will donate a few items as they have in years past and Soddy has committed to giving a few items to Kathy. I have not been able to even get any donations from Wal- Mart this year. Point being I believe it is best to change CRACKERFEST up a little this year.
What we have discussed is: each participant bring a fishing/outdoors related “kids/ youth” item for each child that will be participating. I’m not going to set a dollar amount but it doesn’t have to be a big item but something for the youth. I hate to ask for this change for this year but I want CRACKERFEST to continue and the youth to have a great day. Should you not be able to donate, please still bring the kids and fish with us. Craig (Foodsaver) collected some money for Crackerfest (which will be used to buy a few items) and a few other donations we will receive should cover a prize for all youth that participates. Once again I hate to ask for the participants help but this is a fun day out with family and I want them all to receive something. If you are a member or advertiser and would like to donate an item for the youth please PM me or Kathy.

In the past we have collected $5 per participant and a max of $20 a boat. I am going to leave this open for debate also and see what you the participants want to do. I thought about dropping it to $1 per person (that way we would still have cash prizes to give out to the winning weight). I have thought about going with the $5 but max $10 per family. Since the participants are going to help with the prizes I don’t want this day to be a burdensome event but I do know the kids love getting money for their effort of catching the winning weight.

I couldn't tell if they were crackers, but davo and I found a blue zillion blue gill/ cracker beds yesterday. They are starting up on time. It's the bass that are a tad behind.

I think postponing it is a good idea. The water wasn't up to full level when Drumking and I went out on Friday, and we didn't find any concentrations. My .02

I am in for this weekend, out for the 23rd, (got plans). I am all for dropping it to $10 per boat, and ask for each boat to bring one item of some sort to put in the kids drawing. I still have some stuff from the picnic left over for kids as well.

My girlfriend and I went bream fishing yesterday and it was horrible thats why I didnt post anything about it. caught maybe 5 with absolutely no size at all. I cannot fish the crackerfest either weekend but I would say the weather will play a huge roll this week. Hope all goes well and hope all of the children have fun either which weekend you pick.

Do the fish have to be shellcrackers or are bluegills ok as well?

Either one is fine. The water temp where I was fishing was about 64. They spawn the best at around 70 to 74. I haven't been back out since Friday to see where the temps are but I am sure they have come up some. Water level is about 1.5 feet down or was Friday.

I seriously think pushing the date out would be better. If bass are off by 2-3 weeks,so is everything else. I haven't seen any decent shell crackers up on bed either and usually Soddy lake gets hit pretty hard when they do...that hasn't happened yet.

Postpone it til the 23rd. The fishing should be good by then. It wouldn't be any fun for the kids this coming weekend with the fish being so far behind. I'm not worried about the $5.00 entry fee. Most will burn that much in gas, so I don't think that is an issue.

Postpone it! Those fish in the sloughs are mostly blue gill and most are small. The Crackers will move in soon. It will be easier for us to prepare the t-shirts and drum up some sponsors as well.

ATTENTION: I know a lot of you guys are business owners, or work in places that would benifit from helping to make this a great event for the kids! Anyone wanting to help can contact me or JSV.

I hope it's this weekend because we planned a camping trip at chester frost this weekend for the crackerfest I think the kids will still have fun I think it's the dads that want a bunch of fish maybe for bragging rights emoPoke emoBigsmile. Thats just my 2 cents what ever you fill is the best that is fine with me you know more about this show than I do if I can help let me know.
