I've read several reports on the great success on using the little assasins for crappie but how are you guys rigging them? I've read 1/32 oz. jigheads suspended under bobbers, and the tail dyed chart. Is that it? I haven't tried these yet but just might based on the reports I've seen. I usually vertical jig around structure like docks and laydowns. Will these do the trick in these locations as well? I'm not too sharp on bobber fishing yet. Not sure when/where to try that. Thanks guys and gals!

Drumking showed me how to use the float metthod. It works great when you want your lure to stay just above cover you are fishing, or you just want to keep your lure at a certain depth. I bought some Mr. crappie rattlin pears(floats) at sportsman's warehouse and they are perfect for it. I personally use tubes more than the assasins, but both work well. Just hook your float like you minnow fishing and either reel it in very slowly or just give it a twitch every once and awhile while reeling. It's really simple. Send Drumking a Pm and I am sure he'll be more than happy to descibe it more to you.

i just cast it out and count it down to the depth i think they are and work it back. Almost like worm fishing. I usually start with a 6 count then go to 8 then 10 etc.. Usually you can locate them pretty fast this way.
take a pair of piers and straighten the hook out and then curl it back. This will allow you to straighten the hook when you hang up and not have to retie every 2 mintues. You can also heat it up with a lighter and "soften" the hook.

Thanks DHaun. I did a search but must have had done it incorrectly. That's exactly what I was looking for! CFF to the rescue again.

When fishing with a floater, I use the smallest pear shaped floater that I can find. Attach it at the bottom only. Do not attach it at the top or both top and bottom as this will kill the action of the jigs. I use 1/32 oz bleeding hook jigs with I floater fish and I always use tubes when floater fishing. I tightline with the panfish assassins, curly tailed grubs, plastic minnows, etc. Panfish assassins are great little baits, but don't fall in love with them. I have seen the time when crappie won't hit them nearly as well as a plastic minnow or curly tailed grub. We are approaching that time now. After the spawn is the time for the assassins and little 1 1/2" worms to shine. Hey, J-dub, do you know anything about striper fishing below Ft Loudon dam? I need someone up there to take me one time and show me the areas that I need to avoid. (rockpiles etc)

I am in Maryville every other weekend and would like to learn about that dam. emoGeezer

I wish I did but unfortunately I've only been down there from the bank. I've never really gotten into rockfishing below the dams as I get too aggravated in retying constantly from getting snagged. Now would be a good time to just drive over there sometime as they're not generating as much, so that, with the low water levels would point out the rock piles pretty easily. If you stay to the left bank side, far enough out to where a cast won't get you I think you're fine. I've seen rockfish by the boatload be caught out there but I've never tried from a boat. Maybe you could take a digital camera with you and take a picture with the water down so that when you come back if the water's up you'll be able to see where to stay away. Just an idea that hit me.

I ain`t forgot your pics DK....I just don`t get across the dam near as much since I`m not working `yet and haven`t caught it right yet when I have been across it ...
I haven`t seen much indication that the stripers are there yet....it`s usually not hard to tell!! Ive just been getting over there once or twice a week though....I`ll start watching the generation a little closer though and see what I can see...and try to get you some pics..We`ll try to go soon !!

j-dub if you like to troll assassins work really well for that too. I also like to chunk, count down and wind using varying retrieves. Panfish assassins make up better than 30 percent of my crappie arsenal. They work!

The water temp is still just a little bit low for the stripers to get going strong. Let the water warm up another 4-5 degrees and some will begin to show up. Let the temp get into the low 50's and they should be there big time. I'll probably be in Maryville on the 8th through the 10th. I might just drive over and take a look for myself. Thanks SNuffy.
