This is just a heads up for people living in Chattanooga. I have no idea if the county is having the same issues.

About 2 weeks ago my neighbor's daughter was coming home from college class and found 2 black men sitting in a car in the drive way. When she pulled in, they pulled out, almost running into her. She got out of her car to find that someone had broken into her mom's car by breaking a window and gotten a GPS out. She called her mom and her mom called 911. When she called 911 she was told that she could give a report over the phone, that they did not have the resources to send a car to every vehicle break-in. Mind you, this was in the middle of the day, about 1 pm. She explained that they had a description of the car, the people in the car. The dispatcher told her that she would still not send a car, but that they would take a report over the phone for insurance purposes!

My place was robbed at gunpoint about a year or so back and police responded fairly quickly to a silent alarm. We were told that a detective would be along shortly to gather evidence (we had the guy on video tape) and get statements. Finally after 3 hours of waiting and numerous calls (it was late, about 1230 at night) to the police department I left. 3 weeks later a detective called! Even then he didn't want to come by, prefering instead to take a report/statement by phone.

The story doesn't end here. About a week later I pulled into my business at night around 8pm and noticed a car sitting in a vacant bank lot across the street. There were two black males in it, watching my store. I went back outside in about 10 minutes and they were still sitting there so I called 911 and explained about being robbed the previous week. They said they would send a car. Long story short, I waited for over an hour, made numerous calls to the police and a car never arrived. I finally got in MY car, drove toward the two guys, only to have them panic and peel out of the lot. I chased them down Amnicola Hwy, and finally lost them at a light when traffic got in the way. They were so desperate to lose me that they ran INTO a ditch and torn part of the bumper off their car and kept right on going. No tags on the car at all. I drove back to my store, got there around 945, no cop. FINALLY as I was getting ready to set the security system, he showed up!

What is happening to the City Police? Is anyone else having this issue? These issues are not isolated either. When speaking with my customers I hear this day in and day out; no police response. What is going on?

Lack of resources and funds. Economy gets worse, more people commit crimes but less people pay taxes and the taxes are what pay the cops, so it continues to to get lopsided with more crimes than police to serve. Maybe the cops should end their war on drugs and start to Protect and Serve. I have several rentals on Tunnel blvd and the surrounding streets and I can personally tell you that if you put one crack dealer in jail another one will take his place within the hour. Not sure what the answer is, but I know we can do better than we do now. I know if more citizens took responsibility for their neighbors stuff then a lot of problems could be prevented. Back to tunnel, people will let the house next door get broken into and do nothing about it because its not their house!! I don't get it, they allow crime to flourish around them and then wonder why their neighborhood it so bad.

chatt cops are a joke!!! it doesn't matter what kind of call it is they have to send a car, it,s their responsability to come out & take a report, prints, what ever the case maybe. not sit in a parking lot playing solitare on their laptops. they have plenty of people to handle their calls don't let them fool you. I've never lived in a city with cops like this its embarrising.

I'm sorry my last post was a little harsh, It's not their fault it starts with the communication issues this city has. I was at an accident scene helping this lady & the other guy out there called 911 it took the pd & the fd 15min. to respond & we were 1/4 mile from the station we timed it. I'm a former fire fighter & I have never seen anything like this. they really need to get on the ball and fix this problem.

Crime pays boys, that is the bottom line.
Last summer the wifes window was broken out and the GPS stolen. NO cop showed up, report over the phone. They NEVER called back to ask for a serial number on the unit, just said, "you will never see it again" emoBang

3 years ago, her purse was stolen at a local biz, within minutes charges were being racked up at Wallyworld, Sams and the Aquarium of all places. The cops did NOTHING. I had to go to all the places and view vidoe of this scumbag stealing my money and tehn demand teh police go and collect it. NOTHING. We even had tthe perps car on video. They said since it was less than 5K they dont persue it. Crime pays boys.... :(

Yesterday when I had my wreck it took the Chattanooga police 1 hour to get to the scene. Pretty sorry response even if there were a lot of wrecks due to the rain. East Ridge showed up about 25 minutes after the wreck but wewere 100 feet from the East Ridge city limit so they could not do anything. We had 3 East Ridge patrol cars there at one time and none of them could do anything. Pretty stupid if you ask me.

that's why each and every one of us should adhere to the right to bear arms. I do and feel sorry for the scumbag if he/she decides to break into my house while I'm home. I despise theives and liers and have no use for any of them. It is a crying shame the PD is no better than they are today as some of them are crooks and abuse their authority as well..........

blazer - 2/28/2009 2:27 PM yes that is pretty stupid Mrwhiskers, should have pulled your truck up 100ft and asked them if they could do something haha

I did suggest that to the East Ridge officer.

The TDOT guy showed up about 1 minute after the wreck. I was amazed. Kudos to the TDOT guys.

....bear arms... neighbor hood watch... and vote the incompetent jerks {cleaned it up a bit!} out! City or county! Did you hear what that idiot "Police Chef" Freeman Cooper said about there was no crime problem in the Brainerd area? There is a huge crime problem in the whole Chattanooga area! And you cannot arrest your way out of it!? Why not! Sounds good to me! What is his job? And for good measure, gun control is being able to hit what your aiming at!

I cannot stand a thief, if i catch one breaking into my house people won't have to worry about him again. honest people work for the things they have and the thiefs just take it away, it is a shame the way things are today.

When a local judge says twice in open court that you should get a gun. You should take his advice.

Didn't I see something in todays paper about citations being up like 40% in 2008 compaired to 2007? emoScratch

Crime doesn't pay the salaries of the officers but it appears that speeders do. emoBang

I saw a ladder in the middle of I-75 the other day that several people had hit. About 100 ft down the interstate was a state trooper that had an 18 wheeler pulled over giving him a citation!!?? As i past, 3 car were on the side of the road down a ways that had hit the ladder with no help from police. The next day, I went by the same place, and the remnance of the ladder was still there on the side of the road. What ever happened to "TO PROTECT AND SERVE"!

When seconds count the cops are only minutes away. Buy a gun and learn to use it proficiently.

Why carry a gun?.............I can't fit a cop in my holster.
