Crime and Police Response in Chattanooga

My garage was brone in 2 times in the past 3 months, Chatt. PD didnt want to come do a report then either, and a month ago there was a car in my driveway while I was home and the guys got a tire iron out, so of course I go out with my pistol and they leave before I can do anything. Took the cops 4 hours to show up that night and when they didnt they had 5 patrol cars here. Took descriptions of persons and car and tag number. Last week my neighbor had his jeep broke in and he chased the guy after I got him and had my gun that night too, at which time the cops were called. 30 minutes later the guy comes back and goes striaght for his house, but he gets away again. The copes finally showed up one hour and 37 minutes after the initial call. Keep in mind we live 0.7 miles driving distance from the precint and 0.2 miles from the Kangaroo on Brainerd rd that they are always drinking coffee and getting their donuts at. Pretty sad excuse for a police dept. But to see that just look at how many officers stay more than a year in Chattanooga before transferring. Thus my shotgun is always ready and my pistol is always on my side no matter where I am either concealed or open I dont care anymore.

The first rule of any society is to protect the citizenry. PERIOD! If the funds are lacking, then make deep cuts in other areas to make up for it. Problem is, Chattanooga's finest are busy commiting crimes of their own (assaulting 75 year old men at Wal*Mart) and they don't have time. The only difference between a CPD officer and a common criminal is a badge.

Amen Jerry! A lot of the CPD officers are good guys. About half are really good police officers that do their jobs and do them well. I thank and appreciate them. But there is also a LOT of the ones you mention. Recently someone brought up the idea that maybe there should be better screening for applicants. Wow! The police union went nuts. The fact is we have a good many police officers that should not be wearing a badge.

BTW, since you mention cutting in other areas I thought I'd toss this in. I had pumpkins this past year that my nieces had decorated and put in my yard. When Halloween was over I simply busted the pumpkins and tossed the broken shells into the ditch, along with the leaves and other stuff to be picked up by public works that week. I was leaving that afternoon to run an errand and pulled up to find two city inspectors, in two different cars writing me a citation for putting as they said "something other than leaves in the ditch". I explained that old pumpkins rot very quickly and that I saw no reason to throw them in the trash. I explained that a banana peel or apple core would do the same thing. They insisted that I HAD to throw the pumpkin shells into the trash. Two people making $42,000 per year to tell me how to dispose of pumpkin shells. You gotta wonder.

Several years ago about 10 or so I had an idiot sideswipe me not only once but twice on Brainerd road and while getting on 153 there by were Sportsmans is now. I stopped at a pay phone and called the police they said there was nothing they could do that they had no proof it happend. Never mind the paint and scratch marks on the truck... I even had the tag number off the car and they wouldnt take it.

I tell you what, the local law enforcement here where I live (henagar, al) dont hesitate one bit to come to your house when you call them, especially for domestic issues...my ex wife called them numerous times and once I swear I heard the sirens before she got off the phone. We only live 2-3 miles from the station. Also there are two state troopers within 2 miles in each direction of my house.

With that said there was a family that was robbed from here and there car was ditched in chattanooga. Thats one thing that worries me with me and my 3 girls by my self. I feel for the person that tries to come in on me at night.

tripletdad - 2/28/2009 8:54 AM Didn't I see something in todays paper about citations being up like 40% in 2008 compaired to 2007? emoScratch Crime doesn't pay the salaries of the officers but it appears that speeders do. emoBang
