Dangerous partially submerged bouy

Next slough down from ski slough is Hunter. I navigate in and out of Hunter all the time but yesterday I hit it!!! Wiped out my Tempest and some gearcase damage with a bent propshaft!. I was just up on plane and trimming out and just got my hotfoot all the way down and- Wham, wham, wham! I might run it through my insurance. I wish someone had tagged it with a float or marker. Someone told me there is an old light marker tower out there that was cut down and left there. so, don't know if this is the object in discussion. Who are the dumb asses that would leave a hazard there like that? TVA? So much for prompt action!

That relic looks scary. You could have had far worse luck or been injured. Somebody tag that thing!

I will be in the area tomorrow I will try and remember to tag it if no one has already..... and if I can find it.

Silvertalon, contact TWRA to file a report for insurance purposes. They are aware of it and working to mark it to prevent further accidents.

I tried to find it and mark it today with no luck. Maybe they already got rid of it?

I talked to TWRA yesterday, the coast guard is aware of the bouy, and they have their bouy tender in route. The only problem is that the tender can't get here till next week,so everyone be CAREFUL in that area !!

I looked yesterday maybe when silvertalon hit it he broke it off! If I remember from last week it was just about 50-75 yards from green channel marker buoy slight up river and toward the river coming out of the slough

UPDATE ! I talked to the TWRA yesterday afternoon, the coast guard sent someone out, but they did NOT find the bouy !! I will be going out on Thursday to hopefully find this thing again and mark it with GPS and a marker of some kind. Again CAUTION in the area below the nuc plant !!

No not the TVA, the Coast Guard and they are probably liable for your damage too.

If you have a trail on your unit that hasn't been deleted that would make it easier to locate again .

TVA does not have anything to do with the navigation buoys. The Coast Guard out of Chattanooga takes care of the buoys on this section of the Tennessee River. I have a friend that was in the Coast Guard Reserves that worked on the buoy tender during his active duty weeks. He has shown me pictures of the work being done. He also talked about changing out the batteries on the navigation lights on the river.

The gps coordinates for the sunken bouy are——- N 35degrees 12.608’. W 085 degrees 06.332’ there is now a yellow milk jug attached to the bouy! I will post pics where I get home today. Still use CAUTION in this area ( witches ditch ) !!
