A few weeks ago, after being away from Bass fishing almost 20 years, I got another boat. The indash unit is dead so I need something to read depth while running.
No room on the dash of the Javelin so I'll have to mount on the gunnel beside the console. I discovered the Ram Mount.

I've done some reading on different units in my lower end price range and I'm considering the Lowrance Mark5x and the Humminbird Piranah 170.
Does any of you have experience with either of these units ?

Pros and cons.

Thanks for any help.

Look at the HDS5 or HDS7
a little more expensive but you will be able to add side scan at a later point

I was out of fishing for 10-12 years and got back in about 2 years.
Wow did things change.
Electronics are no place to cut corners
Today's angler is at a great disadvantage with good electronics
Absolutely get the best you can afford. As you learn to use it, you won't regret it

I'll check out the HDS5 &7.
And you're right about things changing. I feel like a newbie and I fished everyday for over 15 years. Go figure ?? emoRedface

I'll probably never fish another tournament as I'll be catching the grandkids of the fish I caught years ago. It's all about fun now so I won't need top of the line anything. That leaves more cash to feed the 225 motor. Plus being semi retired I should probably cut corners when possible.
My bow unit is a Humminbird 400tx and like I said, I just need something to keep me from running aground in shallow water while driving the boat.
Thanks for the info.

Thanks for the welcome.

After I stopped Bass fishing, I moved to the Fl Gulf and became a charter captain. Good life and stayed busy catching salt water fish. Note: those salt water are stoopid after fishing for Bass. lol

I just don't see me tournament fishing anymore. Besides, I've forgotten a lot. I just learned the drop shot technique this week. It works !! I caught 7 nice Bass in two hours.

Like I said before, I feel like a newbie. Things have changed and I have a LOT to learn.

UPDATE !!

I bought a Humminbird 363 GPS- Fishfinder from Auburnwes. Now to get the RAM mount and I'll be ready to fish.

BTW, Wes is great to do business with.

Thanks everyone for the help.

363 is a nice unit with Dual Beam Sonar and 2400 Watts of power and internal GPS. Have any questions let me know.

Doug, thanks for the offer as I'm sure I'll have questions. I had to convert from Loran-C to GPS on my charter boat years ago but this is more advanced than the Eagle I had then. So, yeah, I'll have lots of questions. emoBigsmile
Thanks
Sam
