Anybody got any ideas on a decent (but cheap) digitalcamera to keep on the boat that will be easy to operate and transfer to the computer (So I can share all those photos of monster fish I catch...Ha Ha). I'm usually out there solo so I guess I need something that'll take a shot at arm's length. When it comes to technology and me, it ain't good. Any advice would be appreciated. Wood

I use a Sony that cost me $250 2 years ago (will be much cheaper now. Great pics, small size and with a memory stick reader or using the supplied USB cable, very easy to tranfer to computer. I have used this camera for 2 years with no issues and a lot of abuse.

Circut City has about the best price around town. The link below is for the cameras like mine.

One of the best units for a super price is the Sony DSC-W50. 6mp, HUGE lcd screen and more features than the average guy will ever use. You can pisk up lightly used, or even new ones sometimes on ebay for around $100.00. I have three of them, and know at least 5 others that have them, and were all hooked on this camera! You will not be dissapointed. Another great feature I almost forgot is that you can also buy a water-proof case to use it UNDER water! It is a sealed unit, with the appropriate buttons in place. My brother got me one of those for Christmas.

You don't need monstrous megapixels for good pictures. 3 megs will do fine unless you plan to blow it up larger than a 8 by 10. Check our Fuji, Sony, and Canon. Something I find important that you might not think about. Try to find one with a timer. At least that way your pictures won't look like 2jig's.

Good point about the timer! THe DSC-W50 does one as well, and you are right about the Mega pixel count. I resize all my pics for posting on CFF down to VGA before downloading them to my puter anyway, but when you want to share a really good pic, (the kind Rsimms takes) the high mp count really makes a difference.

It make resizing them from there a breeze.

Be sure to get a small tripod to mount the camera on I got mine at Circuit City .Can't recommend a camera because I'm having problems with mine(Cannon).

Spur, don't you have any cameras for sale at a bargain for your fellow CFFER'S, you sell everything else?

I have a HP camera that I use. It takes some great pics for a 3.5. I would check Wally world. they had some really good deals the last time I was in there.

I use a Nikon Coolpix L14 --- 7 megapixel, uses lithium AA batteries. $129 plus your SD card. There is also a Nikon coolpix L11 that can be purchased for $89 -- $99. Try goggling those two brands and check it out. They are small but have a timer, 2.4 in LCD and do a very good job.

Just got for Christmas a Casio Exilim 7.2 M camera. About $150 plus data card ($50 for 2 gig 700+ pictures) It us very small and fits in your pocket well. When I am on the boat, I bought a water tight container I put it in or you could use a Zip Lock if you wanted.

I found a pocket tri-pod at Eddie Bauer that is six inches tall. It works great for needed shots.

I use the cannon power shot s200 I bought this one to take on the Harley cause it has a hard metal case and I drop stuff alot, works great for fish pics, has a timer and a walmart tripod works great when I'm alone about 120.00 now i think.

DHaun - 1/18/2008 7:01 PM I use one of these on my boat with an older canon powershot s230 off ebay: Sunpak ClampPod Pro Clamping Tripod http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00009W3TZ

I have a clip on monopod very similar to the one that DHuan has a pic of here. I have really had a good time with it and it works great when I'm out there alone. We can also get group pics without crowding the boat.
