I am wondering if the jigging-spoon bite will stay strong or get better/worse in the next weeks and months? I still have not had the chance to get expert lessons from the pros, as they keep pushing me back because of the spies and such lurking around.

Jigging spoons work in all weather, all water, all seasons, all species, and most of the time when the fish are biting. emoLaugh emoPoke emoBigsmile emoGeezer

While spoons ARE productive all year, I see them as at their best when the fish are suspended in the winter. The spoon can be vertically worked at any depth the fish are suspending, and can be worked slowly enough to make even the most finicky cold-water bass bite.

I'll stay after the excitement of the top-water bite until they go deep for the winter, then I'll nail 'em w/ the spoon until spring. For me, the spoon is a "rest while fishing" lure until I go after the suspended fish later on.

That's my $.02...emoGeezer

Spoons are another one of the old stand by's that somehow got left out of many anglers tackle boxes as new lures and techniques became available. They are great for cold weather vertical fishing any time the fish are suspended and not in a chasing mood. Just make sure you have plenty !emoSmile

Spoons will only get better as the water cools. The only time I can see spoons not working is when the fish are spawning.

Keep in mind spoons are not only for deep water. We catch smallmouth and spots in 7-8 feet of water under the boat.
