dragfish - 5/27/2010 9:27 PM Heard a call from a guy named Steve on talk radio today asking about who was in charge along the downtown area of the river bank. Jeff Styles got in touch with some guy involved with Parks & Recreation and he said Marine Max was put in charge of managing the downtown area along the shoreline. He pretty much said they didn't have a problem until they kept having to clean up all the trash ( worm and bait containers, old hooks and wads of fishing line) Same crap we all see,so if you're a bank fisherman you might do yourself a favor in keeping your favorite spots clean. Might not hurt to carry a small garbage bag with you and pigk up trash that the boneheads left behind. emoThumbsup

well every time i have gone down there to the A.K.A money maker to fish i have been seen by the captain of this boat and by these marine max guys picking up trash and throwing it away in a receptacle if they didnt like that then i dont know why they will like

Chickamauga Dam has incredible fishing, from boat and bank. I know downtown is cool looking but the dam is tough to beat for shore fishing, above and below

in all the years i have been fishing i have never had luck at the dam i loose more lures and fishing line than i catch fish and its also usually crowded with alot of people

i was wondering who paid for all that beautiful work downtown. Was is marine max or the tax payers? Maybe a date could be scheduled that alot of people and and their children show up on the same day to fish. Enough that will not be bullied, and maybe then we can get a little clarity.

Well, another well thought out response. Apparently, Parks and Recreation have legal control over the area and have subbed out the "policing" of the area. Using your same "logic" about doing anything you want on public property, how about you get together a bunch of folks to go have a picnic and play baseball and soccer in the grass between the runways at the airport. Great skateboarding too!

Just because taxpayer dollars were used doesn't give us unrestricted access to an area to do what we want. I understand your frustration over losing a favorite area to fish, and it's a shame that some people have left messes, etc. that caused the closure to fishing. Maybe a date could be scheduled that alot of people and and their children show up on the same day to talk to the city council.

Eric, I think your last line is worthy of a try from the bank fishermen.

As for the situation..Its the old saying that a few bad apples ruin a bunch. Folks need to care about what we have downtown and through the US. leaving trash and junk all over the place is terrible.

Chattanooga has put tax dollars to work on the riverfront and made a gorgeous place for everyone to enjoy. Its a shame others ruin it!!

If it is truely on Private Property, we need to teach kids to respect others property first. I have a gravel driveway and people ride there four wheelers up and down it all the time. I have signs up and they just ignore them. Ive even told them they could use the driveway to get back and forth to the trails, just take it easy on the gravel. They still do fishtails and doughnuts which cost me alot of $ to re-gravel.

Not saying that fishing is doing any damage, but if there are signs up, we need to respect them and teach our kids to do the same. It will make them better sportsman in the long run! emoToast

Eric why are you so hell bent to make this look like a stupid subject?Maybe you could just keep your comments to your self if you dont like the topic. This is not as much a concern to our elders that have a boat and can make it to places like the nuke plant. This is not a bad topic.Talk radio 102.3 and times free press think it is a "well thought out issue".Thanks for your concern anyway..... emoLaugh

I never suggested that the subject was stupid. The issue is valid. I DID say that I thought that the suggestion that he get a group of people together to go and do something to provoke the police IS stupid. Instead I suggested that he get his group together and do something that could possibly have a reasonable result. I guess that it is the difference between someone being an "elder" and someone lacking the maturity to handle a situation without threatening someone else or continuing to do something until the police haul him off in handcuffs. I hope you can see the difference and swallow your pride and take the criticism for what it was.

Things CAN be changed, but not by getting angry and posting foolishness. There's a big difference between talking smart with your friends and expressing yourself to the public. Because I challanged a couple of posts in this thread, you suggest that I keep my comments to myself. Come on Jack, just exactly how did you think I would view that? I understood your frustration and need to blow off some steam with fellow fishermen - and I said so, but I also let it be known that the threats were inappropriate here.

Although I own a boat, I still do considerable fishing from shore, although not in the area discussed, so I have much more sympathy with the situation than you assumed. Oh, and just for fun, I HAVE been on Talk Radio 102.3 and in the Chattanooga Times Free Press (and not in the jail dockets or obituaries yet either emoLaugh emoLaugh ). I hope you will try to change it back to where you can fish there again, although I can see it may be quite a fight since they would likely prefer to just keep the fishermen out rather than pay to clean up after them.

All I'm saying is, go above Chickamauga Dam, get some shiners or shad, a panfish assassin, and work the riprap. you will entertain kids to adults, and the fishing downtown will not be an issue anymore. I have caught so many smallmouth above the dam from shore it would make about anybody's jaw drop. I am just telling you it is worth the trouble.

shsimons is trying to mislead you.pay no attention to what he has to say.

I`m sorry shsimons,I let the old selfish swamp slip out

yea never look at shsimons posts from previous years, never look in the hall of fame with pics of him.. and never fish above the dam lol.. oh and only fish above the dam with a rock tied to your line never use shiners or shad.. ohh and if you do only use those big TN Tarpon Shad .. at least a 2 lb shad tied to your line.. oops cross out the 2lb shad.. wouldnt want to catch anything over 30 lbs ... nah you couldnt do that up there any way .. aint no fish in the lake.. they are all caught in ponds.. people just throw em in a cooler drive down to the lake and hold them up .. but ssshhhh that a secret .. dont want to drive away the fishermen tourism business....oh but wait the city already did that years ago by driving away B.A.S.S. how much money could a bunch of nasty fishermen ever bring into the economy.. all they wana do is leave trash around.. and who would want all that fishy smelling money coming into the restaurants, malls, hotels etc !!!! :)

Im sorry buddy but there has been no threats made on my part. If you think telling someone who might know someone to tell them to wear swimtrunks is a threat, tell me what it implies?Thats like me telling eric m to wear his life vest next time he is out.....?

Try walking one of those 5 year olds you teach down 50 yards of rip rap with poles shiners ect. to fish in 20'+ of water. Im sorry I care a little more about my children than to try something dangerous.

As far as I know I never called any names or stated anything toward anyone. I am simply refering to the facts. I'm sorry if you feel I have stepped on your toes. I didn't point this to anyone specific, just making it known before it gets out of hand like a few other posts around here have.

Thanks.

Its called a life jacket. Simple, and its not dangerous above the dam.

you must be retarded bprice. Do you have young children that you wouldnt care if they broke a leg? why not walk on concrete that our tax dollars payed for?Its not the life vest issue but all around you dont want to hurt me or my children. emoEnforce

I take my four year old places where it is legal to fish. We catch plenty of fish, too. But maybe that is just me.
