I like you Jim!!! Never met you but I like you!! emoBigsmile WELL SAID!!!

Solar sound great, wind power sounds great, BUT laying out the lines to get the power to a city is the major cost and that is why either of them is NOT cost effective
All major towns, cities and resorts are built around WATER, just look at a satelite map.
Building around lakes, rivers, streams and daming them up is another problem. NOW you have gadzillions tons of weight (water-concrete-asphalt-building material-malls-people & all their stuff) that is pushing down on land that was in the past, free flowing WATER.

SOMETHING HAS GOT TO GIVE, AND I THINK IT'S GOING TO BE YOU & ME! 12 21-2012 ain't far off and I'm starting to smoke and salt my fish, it keeps for several years if you seal it.
Al Gore just bought a $9 million home in CA, and I think it's the one painted green sitting on the coast. It is located @ 2012 Enconvienent Spoof Drive SE

Eyeman2,

By adding solar to existing roofs, no long distance transmission wires are needed. Big Frog Mountain (local) lots of good info on there website (http://www.bigfrogmountain.com/Calculators.html).

Additionally no dams need to be built for utilizing hydrokinetics.

Point being there is existing technologies that are relatively low cost yet decrease the demand for carbon based sources of energy.

A good solar heat exchanger just to heat your hot water heater cost $5-6 thousand...Don't think the cost justify the means. 40% of electricity home cost is your water heater.
Be ok for lights.
If I were young and planning to keep my home , it may be a good deal.
People polute 1%. forget the "carbon foot print deal", unless you have megabucks in the bank to cover your "foot"
The problem with socialisim is; sooner or later you're going to run outta other peoples money.
Ever wonder back 200+ years ago when forest fires burned for months, and no one put them out. was that polution, I'd say yes and I would say it was a lot more than we polute now days.

On the spill. From a distance I can set here say man thats bad. I hate it. However if were to roll up to the Chick expecting a fishing trip and found it destroyed with a black gob of oil I'd be very upset. I'm thinking I'd be at meeting of the minds somewhere trying to make real sure this didnt happen again and someone would need to pay a lot. Thats how I can relate to these fisherman and people who use that area for a living and recreation. I dont know if the end justifies the means here.

This is a major tragedy! If that oil hits the shore, the economy down there will be crippled for decades, if it ever recovers! The Florida panhandle all the way to Gulf Shores has some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. You would think after what happened in Alaska with Exxon, they would have been a little more prepaired for another oil catastrophe! This just adds fuel to the fire to the envirofascists argument not to use our natural resources available here at home. ANWR needs to be tapped! Its on dry land, it wont hurt the wildlife and it will help the economy.

There is much more that could be and should be done without the dangers of destroying our countries natural treasures like the beaches in the gulf!

Heck yeah I say "DRILL BABY DRILL!" Just dont be stupid about it!JMHO emoUSA

You know fascists are usually those that want to paint a pretty picture then wrap a flag around it, so everyone can blow on it.
I do agree with your economics, it is a study of how a society uses its limited resources to satisfy it's unlimited needs and wants. I think here we again relied too much on technology, and realized we had a lack there of.
Now, do we point fingers, throw ropes or anchors. We may be at a point where we sink or swim, I don't know. What I do know is that we all can do better.

The Volcano in Iceland just blew Al Gores footprint off the map...I don't care how much people/humans cut back, Mother Nature will keep blowing her stack and you will never catch up to her.
If you build on a flood plain, hurricane area, fault line, tornado alley or a fire hazzard area, sooner or later you're going to get it.
Saving the Planet is fine, but try to teach your pet rock to do anything but "sit" and you are loosing the battle.
The enviromentalist made big oil move father off the coast a few years agp, and that's what they did. It's harder to stop a leak at 1 mile deep in the ocean than on dry land.
Ol' Red blew out all the oil well fires in Desert Storm an saved the Planet, for a while.
