Thanks for the post. I've been wanting to try this method for a while now but wasn't quite sure how to rig it up. This is a big help! :)

If you really want to have some fun, tie a 1/2 oz spoon on for the weight and jig it back to the boat. I have had a ball the last couple days and get doubles quite often. make sure you have a clean bottom when you use this rig.

Last night me and Polo were discussing doing a drop shot crappie jig rig with multiple crappie jigs. We were thinking of using it to catch yellow stripe but it should work for just about anything. Will try it later this week and let you know how it works.

Having a clean bottom is a MUST.....I hope Superbad will take your advice, his B.O. is horrible in the summer

Liveliner - 6/29/2010 9:49 PM Very good lesson there teach! Looks as if you learned well. But are you catching the big-uns?emoTeacher

The largest bass I have caught on the drop shot is about 3.5 lbs. Get lots of 2.5 lbers and the occasional 3 lber. Mostly a numbers game with 13-16" fish. Still, if you need to complete a limit or want to have good time it is hard to beat.

elwestb - 6/29/2010 10:50 PM ... man that's all good stuff! I just cannot make myself try it! I rig for it but never take the rod out!

We need to go one evening. After about an hour of fishing itwhen the fish are on you will be hooked.

So how much do I owe you for the lesson? I can verify that the small finesse hooks work very well, and that you should not set the hook hard. I used to fish this rig with a regular #3 worm hook, but then Wiskers showed me a new way. I thought, there is no way this little hook will get them every time, but I was wrong. Just about every fish was hooked in the top of the mouth, and hooked very well as long as I did not yank the crap out of it. When I did set the hook too hard, it would cut a large hole as stated. Great info!

Bump.

I am bumping this so all the new commers can get to this info. I get quite a few PM's and this has all the info a person would need for dropshotting.

I read this post earlier in the week and am going to the Chick for the first bass fishing this week.I went and got the hooks this weekend. Thanks for the post, this is what makes this site so great.
