This is a good news/bad news report. I took Mike (Kaiser0305) to the Riverpark this morning for some spotted bass fishing. We did just fine considering the conditions. 15,000 cfs water flow and SW wind that was blowing up back up river against the flow. emoBang We managed to land 48 bass (4 largemouth, 44 spots), 1 catfish, 1 red breast, 4 goggle eyes, and about 3 or 4 bluegills. We caught our fish on 1/16 oz and 1/8 oz jigheads with various plastics on them. I even caught a few on topwater and lost the 2 biggest fish on a topwater plug. I tried to keep them from jumping, but they had a mind of their own and when they jumped, they threw the pop-R back at me. This is the good news part of the report.

Now the bad news. On the run back to the ramp, my motor croaked somewhere along the golf course. Motor runs, no propulsion. Broke something in the lower unit. So, I got on the trolling motor, set it on high and proceeded to troll against the current toward the Riverpark ramp. There wasn't another boat in sight today except one bass boat that we passed below the bridges before our motor conked out. There was one boat on the opposite shoreline and they were fishing. I blew my whistle several times and we waved everything we had, and they chose to ignore us and continue on their way on down the riprap toward the golf course.

I called Rsimms to see if he was on the water by chance, and he was busy at Channel 9 and said he could come and help us in about an hour. I told him that we might be back to the ramp by then. But it took us 2 hours to make that trip against the current. Thank goodness for a very good Duralast trolling motor battery that got us there in spite of 3 hours of fishing before calling upon it to rescue us. emoBigsmile I saw EPaul when we were about 100 yards from the ramp. Too little, too late.

So, no more fishing reports from me this week unless I get to go with someone else. Now, I have to find someone to work on my motor. emoBigsmile emoGeezer

Man, talk about feeling bad. To have DK himself call for assistance and I let him down. emoBang Woe is me.

But I'm gonna have to check out one of those Duralast battery thingamajigs... sounds like that came in handy. emoScratch

I hope you weren't late for work today! emoPoke

Sorry about the motor problems Dickie, that reminds me, we are supposed to have an emergency list to print out,
I'll pm you my number.

I'm glad that you got the fish but sorry that you had the bad fortune with your boat. It sounds like something potentially minor if the motor runs well. Hopefully we can get out some and get bit later this week.

Thanks to all the guys who have given me mechanics to consider. Surely, one of these guys can fix my motor. I'll check with them tomorrow.

Richard, don't feel badly about not being able to get away from work. I just called in case you were already on the water. I didn't expect you to come get me. I didn't realize that we were about 3 miles from the ramp when I first called you.

Also, MrWiskers, I took this tube jig out of the belly of one of your pets. The fish weighed about 1.25 pounds, just to keep you honest. emoBigsmile

Cleaned 3 females in the bunch that I kept, and they were about 50% spawned out. FYI

Sorry about the boat problems. Maybe its just a spun hub in the prop and not a lower unit issue. But looks like a good day of fishing.

That would be Alvin's. I have not lost any in fish this year and the one I deep hooked I brought home. Plus I use a different color.

I saw you this morning on my way to work.

Man, Too bad you didnt have a sail! With the way that wind was blowing, you'da made it back in no time! Sorry about the motor problems.

DK - I've never met you but have sure enjoyed reading all your crappie reports for the last couple years. I keep my cruiser and my bass boat in the water at Brown's Ferry in Moccasin Bend, so anytime you or another CFF'er gets stranded I would gladly come to your assistance. If there is an emergency list somewhere I need to get on it. Never hesitate to call - if I am anywhere near the marina I will gladly help out. Keep those reports coming in! Take care.

Jay
