Ronnie and I thought we had a great game plan but after about two and a half hours into the event we began to have serious doubts! I had not had a bite. Ronnie had caught about a 10 lb. cat fish on his second cast and a short fish and that was it for the all morning! Things were looking bad for us as the sun climbed higher and the temperature began to rise. Finally we moved to our second and then our third spot. I was throwing a spinner bait in shallow water when our 6 lb. fish absolutely hammered it. That was our first keeper and it was about 11 am. We just kept fishing and grinding it out. Finally I stuck what appeared to be about a 3 / 3 1/2 lb. fish and it jumps off! Now we both are really feeling sick. We moved into another shallow slough and I caught our second keeper that was about 3 lbs. All I could think about now was loosing that other fish that would have been our third and time is running out. Ronnie was going crazy and throwing everything in his tackle bag trying to get a bite. Old hard headed me just kept throwing my spinner bait. I just can't help it! Finally I felt another thump and caught our third fish. It also was about about 3 lbs. We now had three in the box! You talk about relieved! I had just about conceded in my mind that we where only going to have two fish. Ronnie then stayed with the spinner bait and caught a couple of short fish and had a couple more to jump off. We moved and hit two more spots in the last hour and a half and I think we caught two more short fish. All of our fish were caught in 2-5 fow on a spinner bait. Together we threw worms, jigs, shakey heads, chatter baits, and Sq. bill cranks. We finished in first place with 12.91 lbs. ? I think and had big fish. See you all at the two day Classic!
