Tim and I were ready for blast off arouind 7:15 am and we took off up the river. It was windy and the river was rolling! It was brutal. Even in Tim's big 21 ft. 250 hp Nitro the river almost beat us to death. We finally made our first stop and with in about 8 minutes Tim got a short fish on a chatter bait. Then just behind him I get our first small keeper on a trap. We thought, Ok here we go! Then it got real slow on the bite. The wind was rentless. Tim catches our second keeper on a trap. We made four other moves hitting some points and then some pockets and coves but had nothing to show for it. We finally started to work our way back down the river around noon hitting some chunk rock banks and throwing a shakey head worm. It was windy. Right off we started getting bites but they were all short fish. We caught probably about 10 short fish when Tim caught our third keeper and it was a small Spot. All total we caught about 15 or 16 little fish. We had the most bites on the shakey head worm. Our little bag of three keepers weighed in at 5.26 lbs. I think and we finished in 5th place!? To tell you again just how tough it was out there today, Dean and Mke won the event with about 7.50 lbs. Then we had I believe four bags for 2nd through 5th place all with 5 lbs. something. In about 14 years of fishing the CFF events I belive that is the lowest weights that I can remember. The water temp was around 56-59 degrees with what I thought was a good stained color to it. But it was windy! Congrats to Dean and Mike with the win and big fish under the very adverse windy conditions! Hope to see everyone April 9th back on the Chick!
