We only had 12 boats to show up for this event. I told Ronnie before blast off to give me 10 lbs. and I would order us a pizza and go to sleep in the Tahoe until weigh in time. I just thought it was going to be a really tough night. We blasted off and ran up river to the concret. We caught a couple of short fish rather quickly. Then i caught our first keeper on a shakey head. We caught a couple more short fish but no keepers. Then we made a move to fish some slack water but no fish. Then we moved again back out to the current. By now I was throwing spinner baits, different sizes and colors but still had no takers. Ronnie was getting a bite now and then on his spinning rod but no keepers. Hard headed me kept throwing the blades thinking that a good Smallie sometime would come up and slam my spinner bait. It never happened. We never had a bite on the blades. With about an hour and a half to go we did find a few fish right against the banks. I mean in about 1-3 fow. They would hit hard but we couldn't stick them? And in that shallow water with the current flowing the way it was we hung up and lost about a dozen shakey heads each. Maybe more! We had already switched from 1/4 oz. jig heads ot 3/16 heads but still kept hanging up. Then Ronnnie did stick a 3lb. plus LM for our second keeper. We kept fishing, kept hanging up and kept breaking off. At 1:20 am Ronnie cought our third keeper that was a four pounder. By now we were worn out to say the least and decided our night was over. We loaded the boat and started setting up for the weigh in. Four or five boats had already cashed in, called it a night and left. We were shocked that our three keepers that weighd a whopping 10.08 lbs. won. There were two 9 lb. bags right behind us for second and third and then it went down hill fast. There were at least three very nice Smallies brought in and one pretty 3.11 lb. Spot. But overall it was a rough, tough night just like I thought it was going to be. And yes, Ronnie did spank me again with his spinning rod! Now the rest of you guys man up and post a report and tell the good, the bad and the ugly! I hope to see everyone July 23rd at CFP for another night event.
