CFF no. 9 is now in the books! We had fourteen boats show up Friday night at CFP for the event. Once again Ronnie and i had a great game plan mapped out but for some reason the Bass just wern't thinking like we were? They just don't seem to be reading the same books and magazines or watching the same fishing shows that we are because we aren't on the same page at all! We blasted off and ran out to a river ledge with some grass scattered along the edge. After about an hour I caught a keeper spot on a jig. Not at all what we were looking for. We were about to give it up and move on when we saw a fellow just below us bowed up with a really good fish on. He netted the fish and yelled at us to come and take his picture. He weighed the fish and said it was just over 8 lbs. We pulled along side of him and Ronnie took a couple of pictures for him and he released the fish. So we went back to fishing the ledge again. We threw everythig. We threw jigs, various worms in different sizes and colors, spinner baits, swim baits and chatter baits to no avail. We moved up shallower to get in the grass more but that didn't help either. Then we moved back out deeper and fished the ledge drop again. Finally I caught a keeper LM on a blade. We decided after a short while to go to another ledge. That was no good. We moved again and ran up the river to another grass line and switched back and forth throwing spinner baits and worms. After a while I caught our third keeper on a blade. That was at 12:30 am. After that we both caught a couple of short fish a piece also on the blades. Then we got into a brief flury of short strikes. We must have missed six or seven fish that would hit the spinner bait and either tear off the trailer or pull it down on the hook shaft but never hooked up? Ronnie then catches a keeper and culls out my little spot. With about an hour left to go we moved again to another grass patch. I think we caught a couple of short fish there. At 1:35 am Ronnie grabs up a 12 in. worm and makes a cast. In just a second Ronnie said, "Where is my worm ... where is my line?" As I turned aroud to look Ronnie is cranking really fast on the reel and yelled out "get the net" as he sets the hook. The fish had bit the worm on the fall and swam almost straight back at Ronnie. He had maybe about ten feet of line out right behind the engine. The fish went skyward jumping and turning four or five flips on top of the water right beside the boat. I about broke my neck trying to get the net and over to the the fish with my busted up bunb knee but I looked like a center fielder as I caught the fish with the net in mid air! That was our best fish of the night at about 5 lbs. Our three keepers was just under 10 lbs. I think we caught about twelve fish all night. It was a nice night, full moon, calm winds. We had very little current and the water temp was around 84-86 degrees. Congrats to Steven and Billy on another win with three nice fish at I believe 15.45 lbs. and to Patrick and Dusty big LM and big SM. Hope to see ereryone August 6th for another night event at the River Park!
