Ronnie and I had a great game plan for Saturday but after we got into the water at Holly Circle , Soddy Creek, we didn't do anything that we had planned! We had planned to run way down the river and fish areas we were a little more familiar with but we didn't. We never left the creek. In fact we never went past the bridge. We didn't burn a gallon of gasoline! I only started the engine seven times as we puttered around fishing in the creek. We started out on a flat throwing shakey head worms. I caught a small keeper immediately. Later on I caught two more small keepers and a couple of short fish. Ronnie was going crazy because he hadn't had a bite? He threw chatter baits, jigs, several different shakey heads and colors, crank baits, a Spook, a buzz bait, a C rig, and a lizard without a single bite. My little keepers were barley seven or eight pounds. Around 11- 11:30 we moved from the flats and shallows to some steeper banks with deeper water. They had docks and brush or tree top blow downs scattered down the banks. I don't know if this had that much to do with the bite but something did. Ronnie switched to a spinning rod and down sized his shakey head worm. He then proceeded to put a spanking on me! I had caught six or seven fish. Ronnie had none. But with that spinning rod he then caught seven and culled my three small keepers out! All of our fish were caught on a shakey head worm except one that Ronnie caught on a jig. We caught sixteen all total I think. Our three fish weighed in at 11.45 lbs. I believe and got us second place.
