Wow, tomorrow is the 6th anniversary of my 2nd heart surgery! (Sometimes you have to take the celebrations as you find them). On top of that, October marked the 19th anniversary of my first heart surgery. I wonder if I can figure out a way to have a party for each.................

Today my old friend Stuart and I went out in search of some blue cats. I gave him regular gear and I used the 6 lb setup. He started us off (while I was still cutting bait) with a small cat, claiming a $10 reward for first fish (huh? when did we decide that???). In order to keep from being sent to the poor house, I caught the next three fish, putting me ahead on total fish and securing big fish (18 pounds) in the process. It got pretty quiet on his side of the boat, and in fact he moved to my side. It didn't help. He only totaled 3 fish for the day with one lost, while I managed a 16 pounder to compliment my 18 pound fish, and I ran my total up to 6 fish. I had fun. At least Stuart had good company. emoBigsmile

We watched a doe decide to cross the river (the 3rd time I have seen this). It was really interesting to watch her; and to get a feel for her speed, look at the wake she is creating in the picture! We tried topwater, cut bait, cranks, and plastics, but she just wasn't interested in our offerings today. Could have been interesting trying to net her emoEek

Here are a few pics for those of you who had to be at work today emoBigsmile It was beautiful as well as interesting!

Here's a wildlife fact for you... deer can swim MUCH better in the winter. That is because the hair of their winter coat is hollow, providing excellent flotation. Hence one reason she is so high in the water "makin' wake."

Their summer coats however, have solid hair so swimming long distances doesn't come quite so easily.

You're welcome... no charge (and nice fish, BTW). emoBigsmile

Richard took the words right out of my mouth about the deer...also never approach a swimming deer in a fiberglass boat, they will turn sideways and kick major size holes in the hull with those sharp forked hoofs...no kidding!

Great report, Eric. Put a whipping on your friend too. I liked the pics. emoThumbsup emoBigsmile emoGeezer

Cool! Every day is a good day to celebrate, some are better than others. Did ya break even with your friend? Nice educational fact there Richard. Thanks for posting.
