I've been hunting seriously for about 35 years, and this year I finally put a face to a noise that I've heard many times before. About 3 weeks ago I was in my tree-stand and I heard a high-pitched "YE-OW". I always thought that it was a bird of some kind, but shortly afterwards, a fox trotted down below me, got up on a rock, and "YE-OW"ed. This morning, around 10:00 AM, I heard the "YE-AW" again, and sure enough, my fox showed up again. Since I hadn't seen a deer all morning, I decided to have some fun. He (or possibly she) was around 50 yd. below me. I made a shrill kissing sound with my lips and the fox popped it's head up, ye-ow'ed, and trotted within 30 yd. of my tree. When it finally turned to leave I did it again and got the same reaction. We played this game for about 45 minutes, and it almost made a complete circle around me, and got within 20 yd. of my tree once. Finally it must have got wind of me and trotted off.
