My wife told me I would do well today since it was going to rain and have bad weather. I do seem to do better when the weather is poor.;) I snuck out yesterday for a couple hours and could not find my deep bite. Only managed three and only one of those would keep.:( I decided that with that happening yesterday I would start on the shallow bite and just see if I could find any this morning shallow. My intentions were to hit the shallows early and then go deep. I never made it to the deep part of that plan.emoSmile I caught fish today on three main baits. On top I was throwing my ever favorite spook, in the middle I was using a 5/8th spinner bait in white and chartruse and on the bottom I was throwing a green pumkin with red flakes and a 1/8th T-rigged worm. I caught them on all three. If I remember of the five I wieghed in one was off the worm, one off the spinner bait and three off the spook. The spook was my main stay go to bait today and they really were hitting it hard.emoApplause My five lber about took the rod out of my hands and peeled drag right when it hit. Man that was fun.emoBigsmile I was mainly looking for wood and rock or both. I mostly fished wofltever and the savannah. The bass came from 2 to 7 feet and the temp was 68 the one time I remember looking. My son ended up having to work today so he had to back out on me last night.:( I sure wished he could have been there for this one.

I boated somewhere around 30/35 bass with about half of those being keepers. I had my limit in the live well at 9 this morning and started culling. Some of those bass were really poor. I remember the first one I culled was a 15 incher that only wieghed 1 lb and 9 ozs. It was a cigar. I culled a 1/11, two 1/14s, a 1/15 and a 2 even. Like I said I boated around 15 or so keepers so for me it was a great day. The five lber came from water that still had that yellow flowered grass showing. I think she may have been in the edge of that stuff.

Enjoyed it greatly guys, good to see everyone and thanks again Chris for putting it on.emoThumbsup Jmax

Alarm went off at 4:30 and I checked the radar and said "Great" the radar looked really impressive if you like rain. Cant complain though we need it. Today we spent most of the day from Harrison Bluff area south to the dam. As far as numbers today was as good as it gets for us. We boated about 25 Lm 3sm and a couple spots. We broke off a couple and had several throw the bait. THe one smallmouth was 17in. Size has been the problem, just couldnt find a big fish, and havent been able to in the last week. Started off with topwater for about ten minutes and gave up pretty quick and switched to a power worm 7in motor oil. Every fish we caught today came on this worm. 1/4once weight texas rigged. Most of the fish came from 8-15ft of water, with deep water nearby. Steep banks and riprap produced the best results. We ended up with a limit that went 10.6, with a dead fish for a final 10lbs and some change. Had a fun day with my old man, he drove 700 miles from Florida to fish today, and his final comment of the day was "this lake is full of fish" THanks Chris for havin the tourny.

Davo and I started on Davo's favorite morning spot and had a limit by 7:15. Caught our fish on all sorts of baits today. Sammy,lizards,worms,spinnerbaits,XR50's,buzzbiaits and that may be it. We focused on the shad spawn. Most of our keepers were in less than a foot of water. They bit off and on through the rain, but it got real slow after the rain quit for good. We probably caught 35-40 fish and had at least 12 keepers, but they were all 2lb twins, so we couldn't upgrade. Had a blast, just wish we could have stumbled on some bigger fish. We flipped laydowns and brush with nothing to show for it, tried fishing crankbaits in a bit deeper water and caught a couple dinks. All in all we can't complain, it ended up being a tougher day than I expected. I figured with the weather and the shad spawn this morning we would of fared a few pounds better, but that's fishing. Good to see everybody, thanks Billy for weighing the fish and thanks Flip for letting Billy slime up your boat while weighing the fish!!

Doghouse and I prefished on Thurs night and felt we had a pretty good pattern due to catching numbers and a few good fish. But the weather had different ideas. Though I'm newer to Chick than the rest of you, of course I felt solid on our prospects and felt we could CONTEND! That rain and cold that came behind it trashed our pattern and our choices of what to throw in my opinion. Doghouse will have to give you his two cents. He was using crankbaits I haven't seen in over 20yrs and was catching fish.... though most we caught today were VERY healthy 14 1/2 in fish. Go figure.
We focused our attention to main river points and rock/chunk banks with close proximity to deep water. I mainly threw my recent go to bait, a small 4 in worm with 1/8th oz head, and a chart/white SB. Early we slammed two solid 2lb fish and a handful of slicks, spots and LM. No smallies. We really stuck to baits with chart or light green due to the action from this past week on those colors. Although Louie had been putting it on me with the watermelon red worms for the past two weeks.... you must listen to your 12yr old!
During the lightening part of the storm this morning we took shelter on an island near Graveyard and waited out the electricity. Immediately leaving the shore and returning to fishing I hooked into a pig off a laydown and it took drag and then went limp. Really the only fish today that was of any mention and we didnt' even see it. Only two keepers in the box after a promising start - very few after 10:30. I hate to admit that hearing JMax's reward for throwing topwater was jaw dropping to me, but after we all discussed it afterward, the water was 68-70 degrees all day and it made more sense. I had a topwater tied on last night but immdediately cut it off at the launch this morning figuring that was a lost cause in the wind that was coming and looming storm. We did have some excitement with the trim switch in the front, getting water in it and making the motor raise up while buzzing down the lake. The water coming over the back when you stop like that is priceless. Hope you get that figured out relatively easy Jerry.emoBang
It was a great day even in the rain. Thanks Doghouse. We'll get 'em next time. Here's a pic of our winner. Congrats Jmax!!!!emoApplause Thanks Chris and Billy!!!!

Al and I figured the topwater bite would be on. Our first stop was a flat with lots of stumps. We threw a Spook for a good while but couldnt get a rise on it. Started throwing a Spinnerbait and catching fish on it, but most were short. We caught 2 keepers on the SB. We flipped ALOT of wood and couldnt get bit like that either. We found some fish on rocky points and caught 1 keeper on Crankbait and our 4th and last on a Jig. It was kinda dissapointing that we couldnt get any fish on the Spook or flipping the wood. As always I enjoyed fishing with you Al. Congrats to Jmax on a nice bag of fish and the big fish, and to Davo and Chris on second place. As always the BS session in the parking lot was as much fun as the fishing. We caught 20-25 fish today, all were Largemouth with the exception of a couple of Catfish.

Congrats to Jmax and everyone else who did well at the tournament. It's fun when good fish are shallow and eager to bite.

Congrats to Jmax on a nice bag and big fish. Glad you had a great day Jim, it seems the difference was the 5.1 that no one else could find. Flip and I caught fish all day but couldn't seem to find the keepers. For the record, Flip put all of our keepers in the boat while I kept the trash fish away from him...for the most part. The light show was exciting and as usual, it was a most enjoyable day fishing with you Karl. Thanks Chris for your time and effort and congrats to you and Davo. It was also good to visit with everyone after the weigh in. 'Til next time!!emoCool

Billy and I started out the morning like many of the others; topwaters on stump flats. After about an hour with only a blow-up to show for our effort, we switched to a SB and immediately started catching them. However, aside from a solid keeper from Billy, all we got from the stump flat was short fish. Once the rain cleared, we focused on flipping and put together a limit. Although we culled a few times (at one point we had 3 in the well that weighed 1lb-12oz each

) and caught a ton of bass, we never stuck a kicker. I did lose one early on a swimbait that would have put us in 2nd but it was no match for Jmax's big'un. After hearing how many struggled, I was content with 3rd.

Thank you, Billy, for putting up with me all day and to Chris for putting the Tx together. Congrats to Jmax on the win...I'm sure I'm not the only one kicking myself for abandoning the topwater in the morning

i had a great time jason. Thanks for riding. Hopefully you and I can get on the water a bit more. That rod shocking me was a hoot though. Never had that happen. Scarey...

Flip, did ya clean the boat yet?

It needed it before I slimed it up.

Good seeing everyone again and I look forward to the next one!

Hey guys sorry for the late post, N/A pretty much summed up our day. Just couldnt find the better fish. Congrats to J-max on the win and to Chris for putting it on. You said it best Flip on the bulls!!! session in the parking lot after the TX. Always fun just to listen in... Like N/A said we mainly fished rock and wood with most of our fish coming off of rock near deeper water. He stayed mainly with his pet worm and I tried several different baits including a old hellbender that has always produced for me. I guess if it ever fails I might have to quit fishing.... The switch problem seems to be just that , moisture in the front trim switch, I can isolate it from the circuit and the problem goes away. Simple fix but not on the water. I have to say old N/Angler surprised me with how fast he can move his butt when he saw the wave coming over the stern when the motor first trimmed up running about fifty. Still laughing about that. All in all a fun day even with the rain. Thanks again to everyone who had a hand in putting this one on.

jmax....you going to retire the 'Edward Jones' hat now??????????emoPoke emoPoke

No...they give me them for free and that is one of my most favorite words,...FREE.;) I like the Braves and they are doing pretty good right now so I wear their hat this time of year. If I start winning more I may wear it all the time.emoBigsmile Jmax
