Fishing Poll

Chattanooga Fishing Forum

Help Support Chattanooga Fishing Forum:

David is there a way to set it up so you only have a month or so of access to the fishing reports without posting one of your own? You would of course have to limit it to the IP address as well so they didn't just sign up for a new account. With almost 1500 members I think its getting to the point that unlimited access might be a bad thing. I thing we might see more people post reports if they didnt feel like 1500 people could read where they caught the fish. I don't personally care because I feel like I have been fishing these waters for years and years thanks to the information found here. I just think if people knew there were only a couple hundred folks that could read their report they might be more likely to post one.

Foodsaver, the only way I can limit who views fishing reports is to create a new group within the security model and then add the 90 or so individual user accounts of contributors to that group manually. That's how I created the group for moderators to grant them edit/delete privileges. I would then establish permissions such that only the new group of contributors could view the fishing report forum.

It's technically possible to adjust CFF in this manner, but it's a whole bunch of work involving long-term maintenance and monitoring needs. I also have to determine how new users would be added to this group and establish a means for gaining entry. If they cannot view reports to begin with then how do they accumulate enough contributions to warrant being added to the group? I can see my inbox being pounded with requests to be added. The same can be said about ensuring enough activity to keep members in the group.

I don't think there is a problem with the number of reports being submitted today. There are plenty of fine contributors and reports on CFF. 20 reports in a single day is almost all that I want to read. I simply want to encourage those who have been long-time readers who fish all the time and hardly ever post reports to take the time to support the site and its contributors by giving something back and posting a report of their own.

I just noticed the poll too... it feels like fishing has taken a backseat to work, and the "personal" life these days...

We haven't been catfishing any cause there is no water! As soon as we get some rain hopefully ya'll will see something from Minner and me.

I don't know how you could measure the increase in fishing pressure in our immediate area due to CFF's reports. Most people I know that come from the surrounding counties/states seem to be more interested in G'ville,Weiss,Martin and other lakes in Al. While their are reports on these lakes at CFF, the majority of reports seem to be more local. Fishing pressure and tournys will continue to increase with the population and the sport, as it is nationally televised.

Most die-hard fishermen are going fishing every chance they get, regardless of what's biting where.

Now,more than ever, I think boaters are looking to stay at waters close to home. Gas will certainly limit a lot of people.

I enjoy the fishing reports here. The individual stories, tactics, pictures, replies, and sharing are great info but also a good read. I do not look for anyone's favorite spot or bait. Maybe some people do. Keeping it public, or, making it private, it's a tough decision. I just hope we continue to share.

Just my 02.

I didn't realize when I asked an innocent question that it would generate such attention and postive at that.

Hagen, you make a great point. I have been posting for over a year now and have shared a lot of how-to info. I generally don't give away "secret" spots as I don't think that they exist. The secret spots are known to about 1000 anglers. But on the positive side of that, I have taken several CFF'ers who wanted to learn how to find crappie and/or shoot docks and I haven't found a single one who abused the lessons that I have taught. I'm not the best crappie fisherman by far, but I do know a little bit and am willing to teach others also. So far, (knock on wood) the many places that I fish are still open to me nearly everytime that I want to fish them. And if the day comes when all my places are loading with fishermen, then it will just force me to find other places (which I am doing all the time anyway.) emoBigsmile emoGeezer

Lots of ethical people here from what i have seen so far. Look forward to meeting all of you guys on the water. I should have a report to post tonight.
