Glad to report all fish seemed to swim off with no problems upon release. The big fish was a monster 7lb largemouth caught by Buddy Gross. We also had two other fish over 5lbs and 2 others very close to 5lbs.

Thanks to all the members who are fishing with us this year and see you next at the meeting on February 5 @Chik-Fil-A on Battlefield Pkwy at 7pm.

20+ is a good weight this time of year. Were you allowed to lock through? I was wondering if that weight came from the G? emoScratch Thanks for sharing. emoThumbsup Jmax

I'm a little confused. I have seen several comments lately saying 20lb bags are good this time of year. Where i agree 20lb bags are always great, is it not true that is seems a little easier to catch bigger fish in the winter. Just wondering.

For me it is feast or famine. It seems if you get on a big bite you can really load the boat. Example was last year me and churly with 28 lbs and 12 ozes. emoSmile It was in the teens, snowing, sleeting and windy as could be. But day in and day out they are sometimes very hard to pattern and then sometimes even when you know where they are at they will not bite in the winter. I do think that in the winter the bigger females come out of the deep and stage for the spring. It is a little early in my opinion for that however I bet that there are places if you are lucky enough to find them that you could do that now. Dead in the winter and dead in the summer are my two hardest times to find a limit of big fish. Early and late winter, as well as early summer and the spawn are all good times for me. That is just the way I am, I would guess if a person knew where to go during the later they could do very well also. emoScratch Jmax

No locking through...I think it all came from the Nick. I was fishing close to them and watched them catch their last keeper. It was from the same local I caught both of my fish. I had caught one I knew was close to 5lbs that I figured might win big fish, but after I saw that 7.1, I though it could eat mine!!!

Sorry a little late posting. Once I got home, put the boat up, ate a bite, field phone calls, and got to sleep a little while, it was Sunday.

We obviously couldn't find the hungry fish. Had three fish within 15 mins, then the feeding frenzy was over and not another bite all day. Only fish I caught held onto the bait long enough for me to see that it was a nice size keeper prob 3-4 lbs, then spit the hooks back at me.

Great report Patrick. Glad to see a big weigh in. I heard about that 20 pound sack WOW! Is that the biggest limit ever weighed in at a FOCBA tourney? Hopefully I will get to fish the February or March tourney, hope to see everyone soon. Once again great report. emoThumbsup

I think that is the record by 4-5 pounds for FOCBA. We had three 15+ pound bags last year (2 in one tournament) and Terry had over 15 at Guntersville a few years ago.

Hard to try and say a person is too good to enter. emoScratch If you did start that how would you determine who is too good, who is right at it and who is not too good to enter. I would hope a church tournament would be open to everyone. I fish with the Catch bunch every now and then. They have some of the best guys around here sometimes show up for theirs and no one complained that I know of. emoConfused If you are going to have an open/closed tournament you had better start having members and then determine who you want for a member. I have seen clubs keep guys out that they thought would be too much of a challenge for them to beat. emoRedface Oh'well, like you said, that is just my opinion. Glad it looks like you had a good turn out. emoGrouphug Jmax

I think it is a matter of are they going to fish all the tournaments and "fellowship" with other members or are did they fish it because there were no other tournaments down there last weekend and it was an easy couple hundred bucks to pick off. I could care less either way.

My brother and I are fishing them for A) my brother has never fished tournaments before and B) i can fish them and still not miss my son's ball games most of the time.

Just to clear the air on this subject: I live less than 1 mile away from Shilo Baptist church and have visited their on several occations I just wanted to go fish. I never intended to upset anyone but if I did I am sorry.
