boat is going in reverse even when throttle is in forward postion checked under the motor cover and everything looks good guess Im going to take the throttle box apart.any one have any advice of what this could be and a possible fix for it
thanks for any advice

What motor????? This would help alot. Mercury later inline 4 100/115HP cases has issues with the cam and follower this throws the linkage off so far it can not be adjusted, Just post what you have.

1976 Johnson seahorse 70 hp thanks for any advice you can offer.Im hoping it is something simple as all worked good then all of sudden bam no forward..I thinking something can disconnected or some kind of cable broke..the thing that gets me is even when engaging throttle in forward the boat goes backwards

broken cable...It is a possibility. I don't remember when they quit making electric lowers. Does it move easier than before?
If not a electric shift lower ( you will see two black cable at the cowl).....If you can take the cowl off and you will see two cables. One is throttle and the other is shifter. It will go on the side and attach to another lever and go under the carbs. Move the shifter lever and see if that moves. It will always move first then the throttle lever will move next. If that does not move it is a broken cable or control box issue. If it does move it may have came loose under the carbs or something broke in the lower which would be bad. Hope this helps.

thanks alot that gives me a good place to start going to tear into all in the next few nights or saturday i will let you know what i find..thanks again

Just tore in to it today at the end of the throttle cable there is a rubber boot that has a hook on the end that attaches to the motor to make it go into gear. The hook on the end had broken so I got it off and am going to try to find that part this week and I think I am good to go.. fingers crossed..Thanks for the help I think this has to be the problem..

Should be a plastic eye. Post a picture. If it on the cable itself you will have to buy a cable. I may have a good cable I will give you just need to know the lenth.

That should be plastic not rubber. That must be a old cabe to have the set screws in it. I have one of those also. Just call me and you can have it.
