Freshwater Fish Weight Calculator

For the big blues it's miles off. A 34" blue cat will run in the 18 to 20 lb range. Length and weight are about equal at about 42". A 55 to 57 inch blue will go 75 to 85 pounds (General observations). The bass calculator comes a lot closer than the cat calculations. Use the formula length x girth x girth divided by 800. It will come close. Nothing beats a scale. Even the cheapest will come close!

I can only speak relative to LM bass...

I have one of those Tx rulers that has a weight estimate on it. I have used an estimator based on only length, one using L and G, a gripper scale, and a digital scale on the same fish and found them all to be reasonably close. Close enough for me, anyway. Whether it's 2.5 or 2.75 means very little if you're out for fun.

Unless it's a good fish (to ME that's 3 lb or better), I just use my ruler and add or subtract a bit based upon the fish's girth relative to "average".

The L & G formulae are time-tested and as accurate as you can get without a scale.
