You couldnt give me a glock! Had a guy i knew at work last sunday that accidently shot himself with his glock. He was walking down to his basement with the gun in one hand, and his cell phone in the other text messaging. He must have missed a step or tripped, and he fell. Some how the gun went off and a bullet struck him in the head. His father heard the shot and went to see what happened. Soon after, shannon died in his fathers arms. I remind you this guy was a big time gun collector and he knew his stuff when it came to firearms. I will never own a glock just for the simple fact it does not have a manual safety switch, and accidents DO happen.

A Glock is no different than a double action revolver when it comes to safety. 85% of the law enforcement in the United States carries Glocks. That alone says a lot for their safety, accuracy and reliability.

Hogger, I am sorry to hear about your friend, that is an eye-opening story. Dont know how familiar you are with Glocks, but your finger has to be completely inside the trigger housing to pull the trigger back to allow the gun to discharge. You are right though, accidents do happen, but the trigger design is one of the safest there is when used properly.

Your right cheez, there really is no difference between the two and thats why i dont carry a revolver for protection. Dont get me wrong here, glocks are great guns.....but, they are not the safest for carrying around for everyday use. You couldnt pay me to carry this gun around as a concealed weapon! I mean really, how many people do you see besides the law, carry a pistol around in a hip holster? Most people like you and me carry guns concealed, and its a little harder keeping you finger away from the trigger when your mounting or dismounting your gun.

My 40 cal P226 has a safety.

My .40 229 has a safety also, it's called a hammer drop safety and ALL Sigs have one. With a Glock, if there is a round in the chamber, the hammer is cocked with no way to de-cock it if a loaded mag in in the weapon. They are single action pistols all the time and Cheez is wrong if he thinks they're like a wheel gun.

I have two model 17 Glocks and really like the gun. What has been said about if there is a round in the chamber and you pull the trigger the gun will discharge is straight up true. I'm sorry to hear about your friend and prayers go out to his family. I have purposfully tried to drop the firing pin on a Glock without first depressing the trigger tang, and it is no physically possible. I have bent the trigger and bruised my finger tips trying. I have been the unfortunate person who once said how do shooting accidents happen only to find myself with powder burns on my leg and abdoman. It was a Charter arms 357 with a trimmed down hammer and missed my computer by less than 3 inches. This goes back to what we are taught that every gun is loaded and ready to kill or destroy. I learned a new respect for guns that day. I was raised around firearms, but as we all have a tendancy to do I got complacment and careless. I was lucky! All in all I love my Glocks and do carry them concealed and open.
