How many of you guys are running this in your motors? I spoke to a friend today who is a Yamaha Mech. In Florida, and he told me form what he has seen this is the way to go, no matter what type of motor. Carb, DFI whatever. What do you guys think. Im paying quite a bit now for the Yamalube which is a blend, good oil but still see the carbon issues and fouled plugs even with the seafoam. Not sure if its worth the switch, oh and he mentiond dispite the price XD100 is the best oil he has seen, and he is a diehard yamaha guy. What do you guys think

The only time you should not run a full synthetic or a blend is when trying to break a engine in. Does not allow enough friction to seat the new ring, other than that I live by blends. Just my 2 cents worth.

I`ve been running Amsoil Synthetic for 8-9 years ....no problems.

Snuffy, are you an AMsoil dealer or preferred customer? That is what I run in my truck and boat motor too. emoGeezer

I went through 3 sets of Plugs since last January running yamalube which is a blend. Given Im off in the summers and fish 3-5 days a week and put alot of hours on my motor that just seems to be crazy even though it is a carburated motor. THe oil setting was checked and its right were its suppose to be. Ive owned 3 Carb motors 2 Johnsons and never had this problem running Supertech from walmart, with no additives added to the fuel. THe motor is an 07 Carb Vmax it was brand new last Jan. I run the reccomended dose of seafoam in every tank. My good friend in Florida who is a Yammie wrench suggested going to full synthetic for the burning characteristics, which should be a cleaner burn, and also keep the internals cleaner. I wonder if its the gas we run now a days thats causing alot of carbon issues that others are seeing as well. Another thing that I noticed is GP Grocery on Dallas Hollow has ethanol free gas the first time I ran it there was a noticible difference in the way the motor ran I evened turned another 100 rpms. I pumped out what Yamalube was left and filled my tank with Penn. Full synthetic. I will let U guys no if I see a difference, I hope so cause if not I just spent 60 buck for 2 gallons of the Penn syn. emoBang

harriman, reynolds racing on 27, also i believe you can get it shipped from anywhere too, its the cleanest burning oil ive ever seen, also if you let a motor set its the only thing ive ever seen without adding stabil that the fuel system stays "fresh". Ive dissasembled carbs and fuel injection that have set for 2-3 years with nothing but klotz and fuel in them and they were clean inside and didn't need removing, rebuilding. Them guys run 2 oz. per gallon in race motors instead of 2.5 oz (50:1) with no problems. I wouldn't believed it years ago untill ive been around it.

No DK but I wish I was a dealer.....I`m preferred cause I pay cash at 27$ a gallon at Bunch`s just like everyone else !!I`m convinced the synthetic is the way to go.
I`m also a big believer in spin on type water seperator Fuel filters. Just pulled mine and emptied it into a glass jar and every thing looks good . The Amsoil turns the gas a nice purty blue too!!

The way I look at it. Full syn costs double what some blends do. The question is, do you get double the benifit or double the performance? I work for an oil distributor and can say that I do see huge advantages in automobiles, especially diesel trucks. I'm no outboard mechanic, so I'm not sure about 2-cycle motors. I run syn blend in my optimax and it runs great. At the rate I use it in the Summer, I'd have to get another job to run full.

What about older motors ? 1990 and below ? Ive used synth in cars for several years .. is it good to use in older model outboards ?

I think the lack of coking around the rings is probably the most important reason for use of the synthetic. Coking probably is cause of death for most older OMCs...I don`t know about the Mercs.

Ok found my answer on the net .. here is explanation from another forum

coking =
A black sticky carbon like substance. Lugging the motor promotes coking. With motors propped in the low 5000 rpm range it's fairly common. With motors propped in the mid 5000 range, it still happens but it takes longer. Motors propped out at 5800 - 6000, it's pretty rare. It has to do with combustion temps and today's fuel.

Yeah that can happen on any 2 stroke-cycle engine, then when the rings get sticky, they can no longer transfer the heat to the cylinder wall which has the cooling water around it and the piston overheats and combustion chamber overheats then you have damage.
under propped(low end of the rpm range at wide open throttle) engine running too cool, too much oil, or inferior oil can all cause this. Its best to make sure none of these conditions exist and run powertune, ringfree, carbon guard etc. once year and a good quality oil at the proper ratio. This can also happen on 4 strokes, but its usually the valves and seats that carbon up resulting in low compression

Is this the same stuff as OMC tune up in a can ? I have a can of that sitting in workshop
