gas prices

I don't run much more now with my 150 than I did when I had a 25 horse and paid less than $1 a gallon. I have always been a "trailer to the closest ramp" to where I want to fish, kind of guy. It's the tournament guys who will be hurting with these high gas prices.

I am basically having to postpone going to TN as often as I would like, in having to pay bills before the gas costs to drive up there. Other than that, I will be fishing Sloppy Floyd and Rocky Mountain as usual.

Prices probably won't affect how often (just yet, anyway).

I'm happy just being out there.

I can fish all day without even cranking the guzzler except to get on and off the trailer.

My 4-stroke is great on gas so that's not a big concern at this point, however, if it gets too high I will be fishing near the house a lot more rather than hauling a boat 50 miles per trip. One thing I have learned from CFF are the different fishing options at various locations. Luckily there are a few good ones near where I live!

That would be a yes with a big Y!:( I have had to make a choice between fishing and my son's racing this year not only because of time but because of the money both take. There is no way I could make enough money to do both, and as any father knows the kids come first.
I'm going to sit down today and try to figure out how much I've spent on racing this year,I bet I could have bought a new boat!emoLaugh

Use to never take gas help from those who went with me and now I welcome it.emoRolleyes Also I hardly ever go to the G or the Nick anymore since it is a double expense with the truck on one hand and the boat on another.emoDoh Now mostly I just go out of the wolf or HBSP since they are only about five miles from the house.emoThumbsup Jmax

For sure it has hurt my fishing. I seldom make the longer runs that I used to make and even limit the short trips now to an extent. Lucky for me there is a lot of good fishing very close to home here. As Madbomber said, I look for the closest ramp to the area I am going to fish also. But that has become a problem because of security issues, with people breaking into trucks and all. Looks like this winter, Harrison Bay, Wolftever, Skull Island, and the river will be my main spots to fish.

It has put a cramp in my fishing this year also. If I go anywhere it is at least a 40 minute drive to water and then where ever I run to. The last trip to the river for me was $20 for the truck and then gas I used in the boat. Plus the 1 1/2 hr drive to get there. I guess I will go back to fishing the Hiwassee river a little closer to home this winter. It still a lot of fun trout fishing in the winter.

Nice ride JTF! Looks like it would hold a rod or two.

May even be able to store a couple of stripers in there or a musky!

Living close to the lake, it's not going to slow down my fishing. It will limit my trips to other fishing sites I enjoy.

I started making a fishing route a while back and it has cut down on the amount of time the guzzler is on. I try not to back track any, and fish my favorite holes a little longer, using the tm to move from spot to spot if it's not too far. Tx fishing is the only time I forget about fuel prices, until I stop to fill up on the way home !

The lady next door told me this morning I better fill up now, gas would be 3.25 by this evening.emoProtest emoProtest

A week a go I had to fill up the boat and truck, the truck is a diesel. I put $125.00 in both of them, the truck was empty again last night and I put $80.00 in it. Burned over half of that on a trip to atlanta this morning. Go figure

You guys need to get a smaller boat. My 25HP Evinrude will push my boat to 30mph GPS (so it is not as fast as my Triton was but so what). I compensate for the reduced speed by getting a closer ramp and finding closer fish.I also rarely turn off my engine as I troll all day on a little over a half of a 6 gallon gas can. The only time I turn off the engine is when I have a hang or am casting a school of fish. A hand tiller is so much better (than a steering wheel), it turns on a dime and follows depth contours better. I have caught bigger bass with this boat and I am really enjoying fishing without the worry of the many things that break on a more complex bass boat. I also invested the money I made off the Triton so I can retire earlier and fish more.emoDance Before all is said and done, when gas prices reach much higher levels (and they will), you won't be able to sell that big bass boat just like SUVs are now.

that is why I want to sell mine at the first of the year....if I can.

Jon, I listed mine on BoatTrader.com and it sold in about a week. You may want to list it now and be looking for a smaller boat.
I talked with Hank Baker with Phoenix Boat Co. (formerly BumbleBee) and he thinks that they have the BumbleBee 154 mold
in the attic and may make a run of them. Mine is a tru-hull Troller built in Pa. They are trying to start up production again because people are wanting smaller boats.
