My friend and his wife was camping on a island over at WT for memorial day weekend. When they were leaving sunday and had just gotten their boat out of the water they saw this happen. Apparently a guy was putting his boat out of the water and ran it too hard up on the trailer and smacked the back of his jeep and made something break in transmissioin and then the boat and jeep and trailer rolled down ramp into the water. Maybe some of you saw this or heard about it. Here is some pics they took. They just now sent me the pics to post. I'm just going to paste what they said happened.

"when we were fixin to pull off the boat ramp, the guy next to us apparently had some problems... The person driving the boat hit up against the trailer too hard when he was pulling up and basically the transmission was messed up.. I was in the passengers side of our truck waiting while Brian was guiding our boat onto our trailer and I was watching them pull their boat up. There was an older dude (looked like her grandpa) on their passengers side of their 4-door Jeep Cherokee telling a little girl (about 8-probably granddaughter) to get into the back seat.. (both doors were open). Next thing you know as I'm watching that the truck starts rolling back into the water!!! The little girl was half way into the back seat of the vehicle. My heart dropped I thought she was going to get run over and I was going to watch it!!! I couldn't have done anything it happened so fast.. but luckily, she got out of the way, with help from the grandpa. In the meantime no one was trying to stop the vehicle from going into the water. Brian immediately ran over there and jumped into the driver's side window and grabbed for the gear shift to see if it was in park (it was) and then next grabbed for the emergency brake... on.. so at this time I yell " the back is floating get out, you can't do anything" Brian swam out and guess what ... nothing you can do.
What a trip..."

I've seen that another time time at WT. When I saw it all you could see were bubbles and 2 guys on the ramp scratching their heads.

That is not a good day.

Bummer ... what happened to the boat? It didn't go under with the rig did it?

Hope he has insurance.

TT

I"ll call later and find out bout the boat. I'm pretty sure he had just pulled up on the trailer when he hit the back of his jeep and didn't have time to secure it to the trailer so it probably floated off with him still in it.

Are you serious LL? A friend of mine once went to pull out after the boat was secured on the trailer and sank his truck. I think his clutch went out on the ramp and when he tried to pull out it just went backwards.

I got stuck on a ramp once. Transmission fluid leaked out from some where on the way down to Mud Creek. Parked that morning didnt notice a thing. Got back to the ramp an put it in reverse it was cold and was a little slow to catch going into reverse but didnt think to much of it. Backed down the ramp put on the parking brake and put the boat on the trailer. Put the truck in D and hit the gas..... the engine reved and i started rolling backwards. Only rolled a foot till i hit the breaks. Scratched my head for a minute and tried again. Rolled back another foot. Lets try 4WD.... another foot. Anyway we tried a few more times until the back of the explorer was almost in the water. Figured out it was low tranny fluid and had to hitch a ride to Napa. Finally get back to the ramp fill her up and drive up.

Several years ago I watched as an older man just backed his car down the ramp at Chester Frost and it went under just like this one did...shame. For an evening for passing the time, you need to go over to CF and just watch the goings on at the ramp.... you can see some very strange events there... especially, in early spring.... It is a sad thing for this family ....FA
