The DVA is a tool with a peak voltage adapter built in. The peak voltage adapter is a tool used with a multi-meter. They do the same job. The reason you have to have one is, the voltage produced by the stator is A/C voltage and very erratic. The adapter stabilizes the voltage and takes a average. Even though some meters have average function, it still will not work. IF you want to call me, I can give you some steps on how to some test without a DVA. It is a lot quicker and easier to just measure voltages to see what is missing. The steps that I will tell you , will require you to make a simple special tool using electrical wire and 4 spark plugs.
If you are real smart and electromechanical, I can send you plans on how to build a home made PVA. The one I have is built by CDI and sells for $110. I am going to sell the one I have with leads to buy one without the leads so I can use my fluke leads with alligator clips and keep it in my meter case.
