I was bass fishing a few days ago and noticed that the grass was growing very well on some of my shallow spots. When I left some of the areas that had grass it looked like the edges were growing in as deep as 7 feet of water. It seems to me that the grass is off to a better start than it has in the last 17 years and I was wondering if anyone had an idea about how the grass growth has been in thier part of the lake. I didn't catch any fish in the gras but I didn't fish in it for any significant period of time. The area where I saw the grass was in the Harrison bay/Patton Island area.

I thought it was spiny-leaf niad, but either way it is growing all over the lake. Even on the tops of open water humps.

I'm seeing big clumps of spiney leaf and milfoil. The milfoil seems a little slower coming up this year. One thing I have noticed is the extreme clearness of the water. The other day I could see all the way to the bottom in almost 7 feet of water. I guess without rain there is nothing to cloud the water.

If there is any milfoil growing on the tops of open water humps, the habitat for bass is going to thrive on Chickamauga

I have noticed also that the water is clear this year. My swimming hole this year is GREAT!!! I've seen grass there too .. but it's that spiney stuff.

Keep in mind that when the grass took hold in the later 80's we were in the middle of a very dry period. So this drought may be good for those desiring grass. Grass or no grass the bass population in this lake seems to be doing very well!

Hey TT... the water i probably a lot clearer, because of the lack of rain, which leads to a lack of run-off from fields and stuff. Just my thoughts..

Although the spiny-leaf is bashed as bass habitat, all of our fish over the weekend were hanging around it. Not only on the humps, but also as deep as 14 feet.

Has anyone come across two or more different grasses in the same area? Like milfoil and duckweed or other combos?

Gosh I don't know why anyone would bash it unless they were trying to move around in it and got tangled up. The spiney leaf is the perfect spot for bass to lie in wait and destroy something that passes across the leaves over head. I've got some nice fish last year fishing the stuff.
