I am looking at finding more areas when the grass is down in the winter, thats the real ticket... locating that structure and fishing the heck out of it, before the grass comes up.

Still new to grass fishing...

I'll bet that you could find it with your electronics and a good map right now. What kind of bottom machine do you have? Do you feel very good about using it to find structures?

Alot of the structure like stumpbeds and ditches are matted over right now, or real near it! All i get is the normal grass lines on the finder. I have Eagle electronics, nothing fancy. I located my crappie condos with them without struggle a few weeks ago.

If you look at those maps really hard I think that you can make out where the old roadbeds should be and the fish would stack up on that change in bottom composition. The maps also give a vague idea of where the stumpbeds start and stop also. I've read that it's really important to find where the stumpy areas are in the mats because that's where the fish would be also. I've not fished the grass much either but those changes underwater are what really make the difference. In the areas that are just a bit deeper than the grass reach is where you could find where the roadbeds are even if the shallower areas are covered with grass.
