I have never been to Guntersville Lake. It is something I have wanted to do for a while now but just have not had the chance. Somewhere in the very near future I plan on going down.... Since I have never been on the lake I was wondering if hiring a guide for a day might be a good way to learn the lake....

And..... if I do hire a guide what is a good time of year and or day of the week to do so? I say day of the week since I do not know what kind of traffic is on the lake... maybe some days are better than others??

Never hired a guide on ANY lake before... Probably need to hire on the Chick as well since I cant seem to figure it out on my own.

Or.. if one of you experienced guys need a back seat partner or would want to fill my back seat.... ??

Guntersville is such a massive body of water and theres so much to fish you cant cover it all in a day or even a week. Every grass mat looks good but every mat isn't productive. I agree with fishinvol 100%. Even if you decide not to stay with grass fish, you have all the miles of ledges and creeks.

If you go with a guide do your research and find a good reputable guide who doesn't fish the whole time. Been down that road before when I first started fishing Gville.

A guide does not always equal fish. Get you a good map,do some research. Pick a small section of water and give it a try. You can always hire a guide.

There are lots of good guides down there, but Jake Davis stays "in touch" with the fish and fishing on Guntersville as well as anybody I know: http://www.midsouthbassguide.com/

And from what I see on Facebook, Basswhackers kick some serious bass butt down there as well: http://www.guntersvillebasswhacker.com/

I am VERY biased (because I'm a guide), but I'd say there aren't many anglers who couldn't benefit from a day in the boat with a guide... not just catching fish, but picking brains, observing techniques and in some cases, learning locations. I'd say this is especially true on Guntersville because you'll find yourself looking at hundreds, or thousands, of acres of grass... but trust me, "not all milfoil is created equally."

I'm always inclined to hire a guide anytime I vacation or visit near new water. Only rarely have I regretted it.

Shoot ole Blue 76 knows all about that change in water depth! He had first hand experience here on the chick. I think he is good to go since he has the mapping now.</p>

Hey... Don't remind me of that.... It was a bad day.... I did catch a nice 7lb fish after I got towed off the bar tho....

That lakemaster software has been my best purchase yet...

What Hook1 said couldn't be anymore true. The whole like looks like heaven with all the mats down there just gotta find the right ones that are active. Bass Whacker Guide Service does a great job on Chick and Gville great people that know their stuff and willing to help you
