do unto others as they do unto you, if someone comes in on me fishing i usally stay cause i figure they thought i would leave if they zipped in next to me but each situation is differnent i fish for fun mostly so it dont bother me me as long as people aint rude about it

It really depends on what you are fishing, if you are fishing the bank, I think it's ok if you fish behind some one no closer than 50 yds. but if you are going to jump in front of someone at least give them a 100 yds. If you are fishing a school of breaking fish then stay more than a cast away from each other. Other thing, is if you really want to fish somewhere that someone else is fishing, ask them or at least talk to them, a lot of times if that person is not fishing a tournament they are more than happy to let you have the your spot. But I believe that if you can't be a sportsman and respect your fellow man, then you need to take up another sport. I can also say I am guilty of skipping a one ounce bullet weight down the side of a new boat that cut me off...you know us old men can't see very good.....you know about 30 to 40 yds at best. LOL

I have an idea: Fire up the big engine, go up the lake about a half mile. Then.......buzz by them about 100 yards away at full throttle with the trim set to throw a big wake.

You could always fire your boat up and buzz right pass them, pull over 10 yards past them, put the trolling motor down and start fishing, even if you didn't want to fish that area, but then that would make you just like them, wouldn't it? Think that they would be pissed? Think that dummies like this would get the message or would he pull out his glock? Or you could put your trolling motor up on high, pull up just behind him and throw your lures over his line and fish the water he wants to ahead of him. It is public water after all and you have the right to fish there just as much as he. I'm being facetious of course.

Instead of getting pissed at him, just pray for him and move on to a better spot. If you let another one's action bother you, then he owns you. Be smarter than that. I have on more than one occasion been fishing a place and see a bass boat drive up, put the trolling motor down close to me and I usually ask them if they want to fish the spot that I'm on. I'm usually crappie fishing, so I really don't care whether they fish the area that I'm fishing or not. Sometimes they will thank me and go ahead and fish the area as I will usually move my boat out just a little bit and give them more room. When they pass, then I move back to the spot that I was fishing. Most guys really appreciate me doing this. Saves me from having to buy Tums or Rolaids. You let bitterness get hold of you and you are asking for trouble. Other times, the guys will be friendly, but decline the offer to fish where I am. Either way, I have helped, not only myself, but my fellow anglers along life's road with a little more grace. It is all a choice. emoBigsmile emoGeezer

Funny you mention that , guy I've fished with several times from up that way would do just that ............ I've seen it twice and that was enough . I won't even mention the brand of

boat or who this person is , emoZipped .

I even took offense to it and I was in the boat going 85 mph past the other boat . He'd get close enough that you could have flipped your cigar at them and hit'em square in the forehead

I think a dirty look is plenty in my book , just enough to say " did you REALLY just do that on purpose or by accident ? " . That other crap is just dangerous in more ways than one !

( glocks and drive bys ) HEY ! I thought it was illegal to shoot the fish ? Course , the way its been lately up there , might have a better chance busting their ear drums shooting

under the water vs. casting 432 times for one peck hehehehe )

Drumking, I agree with most of if not all and get what you are saying , if we were fishing in my 1/3 acre pond that'd be fine , we can even tie our boats together and have a big party ,

but the lake / lakes are way too big to be pulling in on top of anybody imo .

and by space or area , I'm talking about , if you both faced each other and threw baits out , you both would have both hooked a 200 lb jerk more than likely emoBigsmile .

You know this brings back memories of how I bought my boat I was fishing at wolftever bridge one morning after getting off third shift here at the mill was having a slow morning but enjoying my time, thenI seen these two fellas in this nice little flat bottom come around the middle pylons towards the shore but fishing out into the channel and bridge pilings I was thinking ok guys whats going on here you can see me cause we exchanged how you doings well as my slip bobber was about 25 yards outn from bank these rocket scientist kept comming down towards me I was thinking they would cut back into the middle away from me but they had scouted my little area weeks before i guess and thought bank fisherman had no claim to open water well as they ran over my line with thier backs to me i reeled my pole in and the rocket scientist in front said oh sorry we didnt see you there! HUH?? You looked right at me as you turned towards me well instead of throwing softball size rocks at there 12 foot flat bottom i kindly casted right over their boat and boy were they surprised as i was I didnt see them either well after i told them i didnt even see them there in front of me and a few unfriendly comments i reeled in my pole hopeing to snag something or someone I packed up drove down to Island Cove and purchased a boat spur of the moment not thinking cause i was still fumeing but long story made short I have a new boat and give everyone i see at one of my holes the curteousy of staying atleast 200 yards or longer away from everyone I can tell you this there are many nut jobs that think hey its my lake and i will go where i want but really its just being curteous and ethical to stay away from others so we all can enjoy the water without confrontation hope to see ya on the water by the way I love my boat so if you twon yahoos remember someone throwing a line over your boat and you looking surprised someone could do that thanks for getting me into a boat and will be washing the sides of your boat off when we meet again thanks a lot and fish fish fish

With over 20 thousand square miles of fishing area on Chickamauga there has to be an open space somewhere.
Just head out to the river , look around and head for an empty spot

You are Right On fischnrod. You are talking drainage area which includes every puddle, trickle and creek. I thought you were talking about the lake. But your fact is correct. I was talking surface area. I stand corrected.

I still think Paint-Ball guns should be TWRA approved bass fishing equipment. If someone comes into paint-ball range, A couple Splats will show they are too close.

emoBang Just my 2$ worth.....We have surgeons who are barin, heart, eye, bone, joint replacement, tooth repair & replace, hair replacement emoEnforce and others more than space is available. emoEnforce Had been quite a while since this happened to me, well today was my day. emoScratch partner & I was fishing small pocket near Chester Frost Park entrance on river side, knowing this pocket is land locked at this time of year with lake levels as they are. This red & white Skeeter with GA registeration comes blowing in, sits down direct in front of my path of direction, immediately proceeds to start casting, wind is carrying me in direction, getting closeer. I get my camera, point towards boat & occupants, ask them to smile, click, now here it is for all of you to see. emoTskTsk Boaters word to me, catching any fish, nope, just trying to fish this area. His remark, am I in your way, yep u r. emoBadLanguage Cranks up and proceeds around. emoPlease.

We continued to fish the area, I hook up, good fish, boater turns & sees and finaly leave the area emoThanks . Fish was 6+ lb, post under fishing reports for today. This was not last time for the day to see them running here & there, there were no further issues. I'm sure some of Saturdays Tenn. Valley, or Tuesday Nite tournaments Saturday will have them near you....posting picture so u will know.............. emoProtest ............. emoGeezer emoUSA

The same same thing happened to me last weekend and it was done by a person in a White Triton. I seen the same boat do that to another fisherman that was fishing that heartland classic a month ago. I put trolling motor on high and passed him. Then he passed me emoTskTsk. Then I started catching fish after that on a frog and got pleasure doing that since I seen he hadn't caught anything but wads of grass emoLaugh .

I agree with Oldfart50, Give consideration to the fishermen who are there already. If you make verbal contact and they are not fishing a tournament (and you are) then ask if it is ok to procede. If they are fishing the tournament as well, wait a little and keep your distance. (50 yards or so) if they are fishing slow, then navigate around them and move on. Good Judgement and SPORTSMANSHIP are in the RULES! GOOD THREAD!!!!!
