Kenneth Hill and I went back to Lanier today to fish the Hammonds Tournament from 7a-3p. Wow, what a difference a week makes. Last week I had over 14lbs and caught fish on everything from drop-shots to jerk-baits, today fished the same areas/patterns I used last week but w/ TOTALLY different results. We struggled BAD most of the day, we had 1 keeper at 1pm..... But we stayed on the water kept a bait wet and finally ran across some active fish on a hump in 50ft and finished out our limit w/ 4 solid spotted bass in the last 45mins. I think the cloud cover killed the bite for us today, that along w/ the wind made it tough to get on anything....

Our best baits today were the 3/16 Dr. Death Jig-Head/Trixie Combo and 3/4 White Flex-Spoon. We ended up w/ 7 fish, 5 of which were keepers.

We finished 5th overall with 12.25lbs, good enough for $200 check. 1st place team had a little over 16lbs they also won big fish w/ a 9.05 Largemouth.... The Hammonds Tx's puts together a VERY tough field w/ the BEST fisherman on Lanier always in the hunt, it was a fun day and I think we both learned something from todays trip.

Sorry no pics, batteries went dead on the snap. emoScratch

That's darn good, LB. Two top 5 finishes in the the last two tournaments. That's pretty darn good!

Were the heads that I picked up the Dr. Death heads that you are talking about? I have a hard time screwing the lure onto the screw.

Congrats again, bud.emoToast

There are 3 different Dr. Death jig-heads a "stand up" head w/ screw, a "round head" w/ screw and a standard w/out the screw, I'm not sure which one you got but I used the standard w/out the screw in the bleeding hook series today....

As far as having trouble screwing the bait onto the head, I like to use the Reaction Innovations Trixie worms they've got a very thick head and are easier to work w/.

Wish I could have found you on the lake today. I was there with Mike and Sabrina Milsaps getting info for a Georgia Outdoor News article. After riding the lower lake in the wind and cold for three hours looking at spots to put on the map in the article, we spent about three hours fishing without a fish. Mike and Sabrina were couple of the year on the Southern Bassin Couples trail last year and the top team on the buddy circuits team ranking Georgia Outdoor News did in Georgia last year.

Cold, rough day. Congratulations, good catch.

Does Ryan Coleman fish those tournaments? He is from where I live in Griffin and was in the bass clubs I am in years ago.

Ronnie---

If I had known you were there I would have called you.... Fishing was rough to say the least today, those 3 footers don't give much when your riding shotgun do they LOL!

Ryan Coleman does fish the Hammonds Tx's he's leading the points race for the year, he is the man on Lanier NO DOUBT.... This was my first tournament w/ Hammonds and they really have their stuff together, Scott Barnes does a great job at the scales. They have holding tanks set up for all fish to recover and be de-flated after being weighed in. I was impressed.

RG when are WE going to do another article on Carters it's been almost 3 years for me are they ready for some BIG spots again???? LOL! Good to hear your still after them RG

The ones that I got are in the "custom made lures" room. These are the kind that stand up when they land on the bottom. Flat on the actual head of the head, if you catch my drift.

When I rig it, I notice that the hook is ackwardly coming out of the worm, and doesn't look natural at all. I took one of them, and gently bent the shaft so that I could make it lay more flat against the worm. I know, from pictures, videos, etc., that the hook point is supposed to come out at 45* angle from the worm, but even when I try to accomplish that, it still doesn't come out right.

The main reason that I got those 5 heads was so that I could skip them back under the docks on Weiss. I am hoping that I can find a dedicated partner/boater to fish the Lake Weiss tourney trail. I do believe that the big Coosa River spots would inhale a worm swimming through the middle of a dock......................for several years, the 2-3 lbs. spots have nailed the tiny shads swimmed through the docks, on a 1/32 oz. jighead! LOL

Seems like you've got your "A" game going on for the winter fishing, I'm just glad someone can do something in this cold weather. Congrats on the accomplishments from the last few weeks, keep it up! emoThumbsup

Don't have Carters on the schedule this year - going to Chatuge and Blue Ridge planned. Any other lakes you really like?

I definetly don't know anything about those two. I do know someone that knows Chatuge very well if you don't have anybody to go w/ let me know and I'll hook you up w/ him..... Thanks Ronnie always enjoy your articles.
