Congrats to Davo and Fishinvol!emoThumbsup Good job on getting on them early. I struggled today getting keepers. I lost the first three keepers I had on, two of them jumped and threw my spook and one of them about ten feet from the boat on a spinner bait just came off.emoAngry I saw all three of them very well and they were nice keepers. I was so depressed I almost went home. That was in the first thirty minutes. Came up to another dock and put the spook out there and one crushed it, set the hook and pow! Line broke!!emoHoppingmad Four good ones on and not one in the boat. Man was I ever snake bit. I was able to keep the little ones on.emoRolleyes I ran into Davo and Chris at about eight thirty and they already had a limit. At that time I had managed to put two keepers in the boat both on a spook. I went up the Savannah next and tried some more structure up there. I caught another six or seven slicks and then got another keeper on the spook again off a snag. I moved to a ditch that is about six feet deep and started throwing the spook there as well. Boom! A 3 lber nailed it.emoSmile Finally, one more decent bass and now four in the well. It was about 11:15 at that time but try as I did the last keeper just would not hit. I thought about the ride back and the stress on those fish knowing all the time that Davo and Chris had me beat.emoScratch I decided to stay and fish a little longer so I called Bbass to let him know what I was doing so no one would think I had trouble. I also weighed my four bass and they were 9 lbs and 1 oz. I released them there at that time. I did finally catch my fifth keeper at 12:35 on a t-rigged worm, another 2 lber. Really for such a poor start I had a decent day. I boated about 20 to 25 bass but they were just small today. Never lost a real big one so even if I had caught the three I lost this morning I would have not had enough to take out Davo and Chris.emoRolleyes I got back to the landing at about one and saw Ram Jack and Davo who told me what had won.

Chris as always another good Tx. Thanks for putting it on and congrats once more.emoApplause Jmax

Davo and I started where we always do. To our surprise someone was sitting on it when we got there ( we'll call him ol good buddy) , so we went to the back of a slew and fished some topped out duck weeds. Davo caught 2 little ones on a spook right away and I landed our first keeper on a swim bait. We trolled around a bit and I lost what felt like a decent fish near a fallen pine tree. Well we both kept an eye on ol good buddy to see what was going on. Nothing that's what. There is only a small time frame you can hit this spot and he was there too early. So ol good buddy left it for us. We trolled on over and began the slaying!!! I had a plan. Davo was using his "go to" sammy w/ a front runner. I knew there would some opportunities when Davo would hook some smaller fish I would throw my swim bait right behind them and see if there were bigger fish. Worked like a charm!! Davo was catching fish 2 at a time and I was right behind him with my swim bait. It was fast and furious for 15 minutes or so!!! I missed as many as I caught, but between us we culled about 3 times back there. Davo caught our big fish there too. We saw a few other good 4+lb bass chasing our smaller bass ( trying to eat them) , but couldn't get anymore real good fish. As far as our deep fishing, it was tough. Couldn't really find ant fish stacked up anywhere. But we finally found one more sitting in 25 foot of water. I caught it on a swim bait. It was a solid 3lb fish and culled our smallest. Had a fun 2 hours and then it got slow!! Still worked for us though.

Why pay only one place with 12 boats fishing? Did I miss this being talked about? This is the only dogfight I know of that has paid out like this.

Churls and I caught a ton of fish today, but unfortunately only 4 that we could weigh. Sadly, with only minutes left to fish Churly lost a toad that was the kicker we'd been after all day. We fished deeper - between 12 & 18 feet - and three keepers came off a C-Rig and 1 off of a DJW football jig. Water temp was 72, vis was 1'+, and pleasure boaters were exhibiting their complete ignorance all day.

I had a great time w/ Churly and it was good seeing everyone else too.

To me the prob. you run into with paying one place is that most of the time first place also has big fish. Seeing how this was just a $15.00 a boat entry it wasn't a $500.00 plus payout. That will get around & get you cherry-pickers out in a hurry, but so will winner take all.

I ran this dogfight just like all the other tournaments. If we have 15 or more I'll pay out 2 places. Same rules. This was an open dogfight, I didn't care who fished it. It was also a random thing. This isn't a weekely dogfight. It was not a Family Traditions tournament., or a CFF event.

I also know that the Bait tournament today only paid 1 place.

Like I said. I ran it the same way I have run every tournament this year. I had people ask before blast off and I told them, if we don't have 15 boats we will only pay one place. It was a 15 dollar a boat dogfight and you're going to complain because I paid 1 place???????

Why would you run it diff. than everyone else on the water? Like I said I've had 4 others say somthing to me about it. It doesn't matter if it's $15.00 or $150.00 a boat. It just doesn't seem fair for everyone.

Billy and I spent most of the day in 20-25 feet with our fish coming off of jigs. I knew whoever got a good topwater bite going in the morning would do well. Although we had some beasts breaking around us early, none would commit to the Spook. We spent the last three hours searching for number 5 and found it with minutes to spare...but did not land it

. Good to see everyone and had a good time with Billy...looking forward to the next one.

No, what it seems to me is...I like a few others didn't have anything to do and thought it would be pretty fun to have a little dogfight ( for fun) and charge very little money. I kept my same rules as I have had all year long and for once Davo and I had a good day and ended up winning and since only 12 boats showed up and I kept my same rules we got big fish and the most over all weight and all the sudden people have a problem with my rules. Wow way to keep it fun fellas!!!! Here is the way I look at it, if you don't like my rules don't fish them. Like I said, the Bait tournament today only paid 1 place also, so I am not the only one who sets his rules like that. To me it only makes sense when there is that little cash involved.

chill!!!!!!!!!!!!!! first off the bait tx pait two places second got 50$. they had 7 boats but i could be wrong maybe they had 8. your DF your rules just next time try not to win if your only gonna pay one place and get big fish. i'm new to this fishing thing but every other DF usually pays one place for every 5 boats or 6 boats...........or by the person. i can see where people would get a bit confused as to the pay out situation so next time, hopefully there will be one soon, maybe you should my that clear. god job today chris and david. hope we can do it again soon.

Chris I'm not making this a personally attack on you & Davo! It wouldn't have mattered who won or got big fish. With more than 10 boats everyone I know of pays another place for every five boats. I'm glad to see you & Davo win you guys put in you time on the water & it's good to see it pay off for ya. But it's all ways good to pay atleast 2 places to keep guys comming back. And with a $15.00 entry no one expected a big pay out any how. I would just hate to see your dogfights drop off.

Not to be so technical Scott, but second place got 50 bucks because they won big fish.

Here are my payout slots for future reference.

1-14 boats - Pay 1 place + big fish

15-24 boats- pay 2 places + 2 big fish

25-30 boats- pay 3 places + 2 big fish

That's all that I pay. Like I have said from the start. I do this to be able to talk with friends and have a good time. I absolutely refuse to make it super serious. I am really not taking offence to anything, I just think it's a little too convenient that I haven't had any complaints until today.

But this isn't the Bait Tx. & it (at first) was more laid back & pay-out was more than one place was always paid for more than 10 boats. Chris you can't change how people feel & they didn't like it!

Can't make everybody happy, that's just a fact. So if someone doesn't like it... so be it.

I'm not throwing my dog in here to argue...ok

I prefer to pay 2 at 8+ and 3 at 15+ but thats just me and they are your local week dogfights.

I can fish with your rules Chris...no prob. I have fun just hanging out and watching jason load the boat!

I will confess that the last Family Tx I was the big winner and took both all the money and big bass. I believe we had eleven for that one because one was a no show. I was surprised to get it all but very happy to have it.emoBigsmile I figured since that was the way it was the last one that this one would be no different. I enjoyed it there Chris, like Ram Jack said, I hope you have another one soon.emoThanks Jmax
